Jagr Clears Waivers, Joins HC Kladno In Czech Republic

Jan 31, 2018 12:56 PM

Jaromir Jagr cleared waivers and has been assigned to HC Kladno of the Czech 1 Liga in the Czech Republic, the Flames announced Monday.

"Jaromir's career speaks for itself," Flames GM Brad Treliving said in a news release. "He is a legend in our sport and we are very appreciative that he selected Calgary to pursue his career in the NHL. Regretfully, with a late start to his season combined with nagging injuries, he wasn't in a position to perform at the level both he and our team had hoped.

"During his short time in Calgary, Jaromir demonstrated tremendous leadership and professionalism, especially with our young players. We thank him for his contributions to our group both on and off the ice."

Isles To Play Twelve Home Games At Nassau Coliseum Next Season

Jan 31, 2018 12:56 PM

Ever since the Islanders relocated to Brooklyn's Barclays Center in 2015, many of their die-hard fans have clamored for an eventual return to their first home, the 46-year-old Nassau Coliseum.

Those prayers have finally been answered -- on a temporary and part-time basis.

For at least the next three seasons, the Islanders will split their home games between Barclays and Nassau while a new arena is constructed at Belmont Park racetrack. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the team will play half of their 120 home games at each arena ahead of the new building's expected opening in three years. The Islanders confirmed that 12 of their 41 regular-season home games in 2018-19 will be played at Nassau Coliseum.

Wilson said, at a minimum, Thornton will miss two weeks. According to The Athletic, the Sharks are still waiting for the results of an MRI for a determination on surgery or next steps for Thornton.
