The Edmonton Oilers fired embattled general manager Peter Chiarelli late Tuesday night after the team lost at home to the Detroit Red Wings, who had the fewest standings points in the NHL heading into the game.

A replacement for Chiarelli wasn't immediately announced by the team.

Canes, Teuvo Teravainen Agree To Five-Year, $27M Extension

The Carolina Hurricanes and Teuvo Teravainen have agreed to terms on a five-year, $27 million extension.

The deal, announced Monday, keeps the Finnish winger under contract through the 2023-24 season.

Teravainen, 24, has scored 10 goals and has 39 points -- the second-most on the team -- in 48 gam

Ducks Acquire Michael Del Zotto From Canucks

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Michael Del Zotto from the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Luke Schenn and a 2020 seventh-round draft pick.

The teams announced the trade Wednesday night. Del Zotto, 28, had a goal and three assists with the Canucks this season and has 54 goals and 161 assists in 10 NHL seasons.

Ducks GM: Randy Carlyle's Job Is Safe For Now

The Anaheim Ducks are winless in their past 11 games, losing to the Winnipeg Jets in overtime on Sunday. In theory, coach Randy Carlyle's seat couldn't be hotter. But his general manager said Carlyle's job is safe -- for now.

"While it's not my preference to make comments on this topic during the season, our recent play has led to many questions. Our fans are frustrated, rightfully so, and deserve a response from me," Anaheim GM Bob Murray said in a statement Sunday after the Ducks' 4-3 overtime defeat at Winnipeg.

Lightning Acquire Jan Rutta From Blackhawks

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Jan Rutta in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.

NHL-leading Tampa Bay also got a 2019 seventh-round draft pick from Chicago in exchange for defenseman Slater Koekkoek and a fifth-round selection in this year's draft.

The 28-year-old Rutta had 2 goals and 4 assists in 23 games with the Blackhawks this season. He also has spent time in the minors.

Rick Nash Retires Due To Concussion-Symptoms

Rick Nash, a 34-year-old left winger and one of the most prolific scorers in recent NHL history, has retired due to concussion-related symptoms, his agent announced Friday.

"Due to unresolved issues/symptoms from the concussion sustained last March, Rick Nash will be forced to retire from the game of hockey. Under the advice of his medical team, the risk of further brain injury is far too great if Rick returns to play," his agent Joe Resnick said in a statement. "Rick would like to thank everyone who has supported him during this difficult time period."

Leafs Trade Morgan Klimchuk To Sens For Gabriel Gagne

The Maple Leafs announced today that the club has acquired forward Gabriel Gagne from Ottawa in exchange for forward Morgan Klimchuk. 

Gagne, 22, has appeared in 33 games with the Belleville Senators (AHL) during the 2018-19 season and has recorded four goals and five assists for nine points. In 142 career AHL games, the Laval, Quebec native has registered 40 points (26 goals, 14 assists) and 62 penalty minutes. Prior to playing in the AHL, Gagne skated in 177 games in the QMJHL split between Victoriaville (143 games) and Shawinigan (34 games), where he recorded 68 goals and 64 assists for 132 points.

Gagne was originally selected by the Senators in the second round (36th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
