Goalie Carter Hutton Expected To Sign With Sabres

Blues goalie Carter Hutton is expected to sign with the Sabres once the NHL's free-agency period opens Sunday, according to multiple reports.

The two sides are close to having the framework of a deal in place after Hutton visited Buffalo this week, according to reports. Agreements cannot be announced until the signing period begins.

The person told The Associated Press that the deal will become official as soon as Sunday, when Couture is eligible to sign the extension. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been announced.

The Capitals found the successor to Stanley Cup-winning coach Barry Trotz on their own bench. Associate coach Todd Reirden was named the 18th head coach in franchise history Friday.

Reirden, 47, is a highly regarded coach who specialized in working with the team's defensemen. He joined the Capitals in 2014, having previously spent four seasons with the Penguins, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2009.
