Sean Couturier Out Four Weeks With Knee Injury

Philadelphia Flyers center Sean Couturier is out four weeks after suffering a knee injury for the second time in five months.

General manager Ron Hextall provided the update Wednesday, saying Couturier was injured Aug. 10 in an exhibition game.

Senators Assistant GM Randy Lee Resigns

Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee resigned Tuesday amid charges of harassment stemming from an incident at the NHL scouting combine in May.

The team announced Lee's resignation and added a search is underway to find his replacement. The team said it would have no further comment.

Oilers Sign Scottie Upshall To Pro Tryout

The Edmonton Oilers signed free-agent forward Scottie Upshall to a professional tryout Sunday.

The 34-year-old Upshall, from Fort McMurray northeast of Edmonton, had seven goals and 12 assists in 63 games last season for St. Louis.

Predators Sign Ryan Ellis To Eight-Year Extension

Ryan Ellis was already being coveted as a potential July 2019 unrestricted free agent.  Which is why Predators general manager David Poile didn't allow him to get within sniffing distance of the open market, signing the 27-year-old defenseman to an eight-year, $50 million contract extension that kicks in for the 2019-20 season.

The final year of Ellis's contract in 2018-19 carries a $2.5 million hit. His $6.25 million cap hit is the 21st highest in the NHL among defenseman for the 2019-20 season.

Senators Sign Brady Tkachuk To Three-Year, Entry-Level Deal

Predators general manager David Poile headlines the 2018 class of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Former University of Michigan coach Red Berenson, three-time Olympic medalist Natalie Darwitz, retired NHL referee Paul Stewart, Poile and the late Leland "Hago" Harrington will be inducted on Dec. 12 at a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee.

Gretzky Named Ambassador For Beijing Team

Wayne Gretzky has been named a global ambassador for Beijing's Kunlun Red Star as the Chinese capital seeks to boost the profile of hockey domestically ahead of hosting the Winter Olympics in 2022.

Gretzky will focus on youth development in China, including a planned KRS-Gretzky Hockey School that will provide advanced training for players ages 8-17 in Beijing and the southern tech hub of Shenzhen, eventually expanding to at least 20 locations nationwide.

Red Star is China's only professional team and plays in the Russia-based Kontinental Hockey League.
