Mikko Koivu Out For Season With Torn ACL

The Minnesota Wild will be without Mikko Koivu for the rest of the season.

Koivu suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee on Tuesday night.

Koivu, 35, is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday.

Projected No. 1 Pick Won't Play In Five Nations Tournament

Jack Hughes has a lower body injury and won't play with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program under-18 team at the 2019 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament in Sochi, Russia, from February 5-9.

Hughes ranks No. 1 in the NHL Central Scouting's midterm list of North American skaters eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft.

Tuukka Rask Nearing Return From Concussion

Tuukka Rask could return to the Boston Bruins on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The goalie practiced Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a concussion in a collision with New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil on Jan. 19.

"Yeah, I feel good today," Rask said. "So we'll see what tomorrow brings and go from there."

Rask's next win will be the 253rd of his NHL career and give him sole possession of first place on the Bruins all-time list, breaking a tie with Tiny Thompson.

Ducks Lose Ondrej Kase For 5-6 Months

The Anaheim Ducks have lost forward Ondrej Kase for 5-6 months after he suffered a torn labrum on Thursday night.

The Ducks said Kase will undergo surgery, but a date was not given.

The 23-year-old has 11 goals and nine assists this season.

Coach Gerard Gallant ruled out Stastny for games Wednesday night at the Capitals, Thursday night at the Penguins and Saturday afternoon at the Flyers. Gallant says Stastny was injured Monday in Buffalo.

Panthers Place Roberto Luongo On IR

The Florida Panthers put goaltender Roberto Luongo on injured reserve Sunday, one day after a right knee injury knocked the veteran out of his team's season-opening loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The move will sideline Luongo for at least a week and means that James Reimer will likely start Florida's home opener Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sharks Place Joe Thornton On Short-Term IR

Sharks center Joe Thornton is going on short-term injured reserve after experiencing discomfort in his surgically repaired right knee.

Thornton experienced swelling in the knee and flew back to San Jose to meet with doctors Saturday while the rest of the team headed to the East Coast for a four-game road trip. The earliest Thornton could return would be next Sunday.
