Jordan Martinook Out Six To Eight Weeks After Core Muscle Surgery

Carolina Hurricanes winger Jordan Martinook will undergo a core muscle surgery for the second time this year, general manager Don Waddell announced Thursday.

The latest procedure was set for Friday. Martinook is expected to miss six to eight weeks to recover.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without star center Evgeni Malkin "longer term" because of a lower body injury, coach Mike Sullivan announced on Monday. The coach said that Malkin's season is not in jeopardy.

The 33-year-old Malkin left the second period of Pittsburgh's 7-2 win over Columbus on Saturday after taking a hit to the boards while in an awkward position.

Wild Lose Greg Pateryn For Six-Weeks After Core Surgery

The Wild said Tuesday that the procedure for a bilateral core muscle repair went as planned in Philadelphia. Pateryn missed most of training camp because of the injury.

A posthumous study of Stan Mikita's brain shows the Hockey Hall of Famer suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy at the time of his death a year ago.

Dr. Ann McKee, the director of the BU CTE Center, announced the findings during the Concussion Legacy Foundation's Chicago Honors Dinner on Friday night at the request of Mikita's family.

"I feel good," McDavid said after playing on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Zack Kassian. "It was a complicated summer. Lots of stuff going on. Lots of different opinions. There was a time when [getting on the ice for camp] was definitely in doubt, but as of right now, it's good."
