Oilers Trade Chris Wideman, Pick To Panthers For Alex Petrovic

The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Alex Petrovic from the Florida Panthers on Sunday for defenseman Chris Wideman and a conditional third-round pick in the 2019 draft.

Petrovic, 26, has one assist in 26 games with Florida this season.

Pens Sign Jake Guentzel To Five-Year Extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed center Jake Guentzel to a five-year contract extension with an average annual value of $6 million, the team announced Thursday.

The deal begins next season and will tie Guentzel to Pittsburgh through the 2023-24 season.

Dallas Stars CEO Jim Lites pulled no punches when assessing the play of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn this season.

"They are f---ing horses---, I don't know how else to put it," Lites told reporters Friday, according to The Athletic. "The team was OK. But Seguin and Benn were terrible."

And that analysis, which Lites said also comes from owner Tom Gaglardi, followed the Stars' 2-0 shutout victory against the Nashville Predators on Thursday.

The Philadelphia Flyers have fired coach Dave Hakstol, the team announced Monday.

Scott Gordon, the coach of the Flyers' AHL affiliate, will serve as interim head coach. Gordon has NHL head-coaching experience with the New York Islanders (2008-10).

Despite a report on Sunday that the Philadelphia Flyers made a coaching change, a team spokesperson confirmed that "Dave Hakstol is our coach."

Philadelphia is one of the NHL's biggest disappointments this season. Entering Sunday, the Flyers had the worst record in the Eastern Conference (12-15-4), and they are on a four-game losing streak in which they've been outscored 22-8.

Robert Bortuzzo Signs Three-Year Extension With Blues

The St. Louis Blues have signed veteran defenseman Robert Bortuzzo to a three-year extension worth $1.375 million per season.

St. Louis general manager Doug Armstrong announced Bortuzzo's $4.125 million contract extension Saturday. Bortuzzo is now signed through the 2021-22 season.

Ducks Acquire Adam Cracknell From Leafs

The Ducks announced today that the club has acquired right wing Adam Cracknell from the Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman Steven Oleksy.

Cracknell, 33, has earned 21-22=43 points with a +4 rating in 208 career NHL games with St. Louis (2010-14), Columbus (2014-15), Vancouver (2015-16), Edmonton (2015-16), Dallas (2016-18) and the New York Rangers (2017-18). 

Oleksy, 32, collected two assists with 36 PIM in 15 AHL games with the San Diego Gulls (AHL) this season. Signed as a free agent on July 1, 2017, Oleksy owns 20-89=109 points in 388 career AHL games.

Ducks Extend GM Bob Murray Through 2021-22 NHL Season

The Ducks announced today that the club has extended the contract of Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray for two additional seasons. Murray is now under contract through the 2021-22 NHL season.

“Bob has created a winning organization with his commitment and expertise,” said Ducks Chief Executive Officer Michael Schulman. “We are very pleased to be in a position where expectations are high virtually every season, thanks in large part to Bob and his staff. We passionately share a common goal – bringing another Stanley Cup to Orange County.”

A three-time finalist for NHL General Manager of the Year (won in 2013-14), Murray has led Anaheim to the playoffs the last six consecutive seasons (only Pittsburgh has a longer streak) and five consecutive 100+ point seasons (NHL’s longest active streak). The Ducks are the only Western Conference team to play in the Conference Finals in two of the last four seasons and have won a conference-leading 31 playoff games since 2014.
