Maple Leafs Acquire Morgan Klimchuk From Flames

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has acquired forward Morgan Klimchuk from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Andrew Nielsen. 

Klimchuk, 23, has appeared in 16 games with the Stockton Heat (AHL) during the 2018-19 season and recorded three goals and five assists. He has appeared in one career NHL game, with Calgary, playing 7:25 in his NHL debut on February 19 vs. Boston. In 204 career AHL games, all with the Heat franchise, Klimchuk has registered 100 points (44 goals, 56 assists).

Klimchuk was originally selected by the Flames in the first round (28th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.

Many expected the Flyers to shake things up after an embarrassing loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday night. Few expected the shake-up to be this monumental: Ron Hextall, the team's executive vice president and general manager, was fired on Monday morning.

The Flyers are 10-11-2 on the season, with a minus-13 goal differential. They sit four points out of the final playoff seed in the Metro Division and five points out of the wild card.

Coyotes Acquire Nick Schmaltz From Blackhawks

Extension Keeps Ducks In Anaheim Through 2048

Anaheim has approved a deal that will keep the Ducks in the local Honda Center through at least 2048.

The City Council on Tuesday approved a deal that extends the current Ducks agreement, which ends in 2023, by 25 years. The deal also permits up to five additional five-year extensions.

The team promises to continue featuring Anaheim in its name.

Oilers Fire Head Coach Todd McLellan

The underachieving Edmonton Oilers fired coach Todd McLellan on Tuesday and will replace him with Ken Hitchcock.

It was the fourth NHL head coach firing of the season and the second within the past 12 hours, with the St. Louis Blues having dismissed coach Mike Yeo late Monday night.

Blues General manager Doug Armstrong fired Mike Yeo after Monday's 2-0 loss to the Kings. Craig Berube is the interim coach while Armstrong assembles a list of candidates for the permanent job.

The Oilers traded forward Ryan Strome to the Rangers for forward Ryan Spooner on Friday.

Strome, a fifth-overall pick of the Islanders in 2011, had a goal and an assist in 18 games with Edmonton this season. He has 59 goals and 103 assists in 358 career NHL games with the Islanders and Oilers.

Spooner had a goal and an assist in 16 games this season with the Rangers. He has 46 goals and 114 assists in 289 games with the Bruins and Rangers.
