Zdeno Chara Staying With Bruins

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, the 41-year-old defenseman having a resurgent season, has decided to return for 2018-19.

GM Don Sweeney announced on Wednesday that Chara has agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with performance-based incentives that could add $1.75 million to his salary. Chara is in the final year of a seven-year $45.5 million contract.

Chara is in his 20th season in the NHL and 12th season with the Bruins.

Blues Lose Carl Gunnarsson To Season-Ending Injury

The surging Blues beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 for their fourth consecutive victory Friday night but lost defenseman Carl Gunnarsson to a season-ending injury.

Gunnarsson exited in the first period. He will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

NHL GMs Consider Change To Goalie Interference Review Process

NHL general managers are considering change to the league's goalie interference review process.

The topic, which has emerged as one of the league's hottest issues, was supposed to be discussed for about an hour and a half on the first day of the NHL's spring GM meetings. Instead, it dominated Monday's entire agenda, a discussion that took more than three hours -- and counting.

"Well first of all, you're right about the time spent on it," Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello said. "That's all we did speak about, and it's going to be continued [Tuesday]."

Ilya Kovalchuk Wants To Return To NHL

Former NHL forward Ilya Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL this summer and play there for "several more years."

Kovulchuk, who is playing for SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League, walked out on the New Jersey Devils in 2013 to return to Russia, where he has since won two KHL titles along with an Olympic gold medal last month in Pyeongchang.

Alex Ovechkin Scores 600th Career Goal

Capitals star Alex Ovechkin has become the 20th player in NHL history to reach 600 career goals, further cementing his status as one of the league's all-time best offensive talents.

The Capitals captain scored twice Monday night in Washington's 3-2 overtime win over the Jets to reach the milestone in his 990th regular-season game. No. 600 came 3 minutes, 53 seconds into the second period and marked his 42nd goal this season, which leads the NHL.

Capitals Sign GM Brian MacLellan To Extension

The Washington Capitals have signed general manager Brian MacLellan to a contract extension.

MacLellan is in the fourth year of his original four-year deal when he was promoted from assistant GM to replace George McPhee. The team confirmed the extension Friday in the midst of its California road trip.

David Poile Becomes Winningest GM In NHL History

David Poile now has the most wins in NHL history as a general manager.

Viktor Arvidsson scored a pair of goals as Poile's Western Conference-leading Predators rallied for a 4-2 victory over the Oilers on Thursday night.

The victory was the 1,320th in Poile's career, surpassing Glen Sather, the front-office leader for the Oilers' dynasty of the 1980s who later took over the Rangers in 2000.
