It didn't take long for the Vegas Golden Knights to use their newfound cap space Wednesday, with the Stanley Cup champions signing forward Ivan Barbashev to a five-year contract worth $5 million annually.

The Golden Knights were facing a bit of a salary cap conundrum with Barbashev, who told ESPN before the Cup finals that he wanted to remain in Vegas, as a pending unrestricted free agent.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed center David Kampf to a four-year contract extension worth $9.6 million on Wednesday, hours before the NHL Draft began.

The club's new general manager, Brad Treliving, also announced Toronto had re-signed forward Pontus Holmberg to a two-year deal worth $1.6 million.

The New Jersey Devils have signed forward Timo Meier to an eight-year, $70.4 million contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Meier landed with New Jersey in a blockbuster trade in February between the Devils and San Jose Sharks. San Jose shipped Meier -- in the final season of a four-year, $24 million contract -- to New Jersey while retaining 50% of his cap hit, and received a package of four players and three draft choices in return.

The Calgary Flames signed Yegor Sharangovich to a two-year, $6.2 million contract extension on Wednesday, one day after the center was acquired from the New Jersey Devils as part of the Tyler Toffoli trade.

The Flames also secured a third-round pick in Wednesday's draft in the trade involving Sharangovich, who was set to become a restricted free agent on Saturday.

The Dallas Stars have signed right wing Evgenii Dadonov to a two-year, $4.5 million contract extension through the 2024-25 season, the team announced Tuesday.

The Anaheim Ducks have hired former captain Ryan Getzlaf to do captain-type things for the team -- just doing it off the ice.

He was named director of player development Tuesday -- charged with helping prepare and educate Ducks prospects for a career in professional hockey.

"I am so excited to be back in a role where I feel I can help our young players, who are the focal point of both the future and present of our hockey club," Getzlaf said in a statement. "This opportunity will give me the chance to help them in the critical years of their development and share the many years of experiences that I have had. I would also like to thank Pat and his staff for giving me the chance to come in and learn, as well as help where I can."

The Arizona Coyotes have signed backup goaltender Connor Ingram to a three-year contract, the team announced Sunday.

The 26-year-old led the Coyotes with a 3.37 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage last season. He had a 6-13-8 record in 27 games. Ingram made 47 saves in a shutout of Tampa Bay on Feb. 15, the most in NHL history by a goalie in his first career shutout.

The Carolina Hurricanes signed captain Jordan Staal to a four-year contract worth $11.6 million, the team announced Sunday. The forward's new deal includes a no-movement clause for three seasons and a no-trade clause for the final season in 2026-27.

Staal, 34, was set to become an unrestricted free agent Saturday.

The New Jersey Devils have re-signed Erik Haula to a three-year, $9.45 million contract, the team announced Friday.

A veteran left winger who can also double as a center, Haula found an instant fit with the Devils. Though he was on an expiring contract when they acquired him in the 2022 offseason, Haula reiterated several times during the season how much he wanted to stay with the club.

The San Jose Sharks are bringing back franchise great Patrick Marleau to serve as a player development coach and hockey operations adviser.

The Sharks announced Marleau's return Friday, saying he will work with players on the Sharks and the AHL's San Jose Barracuda while also serving as an adviser to general manager Mike Grier.

"I'm looking forward to working with our players on the ice to help them reach their full potential and sharing the knowledge I have garnered from playing 23 years in the National Hockey League," Marleau said in a statement. "I'm also eager to work with Mike and his staff, and to continuing to learn about the game and business side of hockey."
