The San Jose Sharks signed defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov on Wednesday to a two-year, $2.5 million contract extension through the 2024-25 season.

The 25-year-old Knyzhov returned to the Sharks lineup March 6 after missing nearly two full years with lower-body injuries.

The New York Rangers have signed forward Filip Chytil to a four-year contract extension worth $17.75 million, locking up another member of their core long term.

The team announced the deal Wednesday night. Chytil will count just under $4.44 million annually against the salary cap through the 2026-27 season.

Chytil, 23, is in the midst of a career year. He has set career highs with 22 goals, 20 assists and 42 points in 66 games for the playoff-bound Rangers.

The Colorado Avalanche are set behind the bench for the foreseeable future following their announcement Tuesday of a three-year extension for Jared Bednar, the winningest head coach in franchise history.

Financial terms of the deal, which kicks in once Bednar's current contract runs out after the 2023-24 season, were not disclosed.

"Jared has done a tremendous job behind the bench and certainly deserves this extension and to continue as the leader of our team," Joe Sakic, the team's president of hockey operations, said in a statement.

The Buffalo Sabres signed goalie Devon Levi to a three-year entry level contract Friday, less than a week after the 21-year-old's junior season ended at Northeastern.

Levi won the Mike Richter Award as college hockey's top goalie last season, and is once again a finalist this year following a season in which he led the nation with a .923 save percentage. He also led Hockey East goalies with 14 wins, six shutouts, a 1.81 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage.

The Arizona Coyotes signed the 21-year-old forward to a three-year entry-level contract Thursday, beginning with the 2023-24 NHL season. He will report to the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL and play his first game Friday night against the Calgary Wranglers.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to a three-year contract worth $9 million.

General manager Brian MacLellan announced the extension Saturday, hours before his team took on the New York Islanders. The deal through the 2025-26 season carries a $3 million annual salary cap hit.

The Boston Bruins have signed forward David Pastrnak to an eight-year contract extension that will pay him $90 million -- the sixth-largest deal in NHL history.

The deal locks up one of the league's MVP candidates through the 2030-31 season for $11.25 million a season. He had been eligible to become a free agent after this season.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has signed an eight-year extension with an $8.7 million average annual value, the team announced Wednesday.

Larkin, 26, leads the Red Wings in scoring this season with 22 goals and 35 assists for 57 points in 59 games. In 563 career NHL games over eight seasons, all with Detroit, he has scored 169 goals and 246 assists.
