Zdeno Charra Leaving Bruins, Signs One-Year Deal With Capitals

Zdeno Chara is leaving the Boston Bruins after 14 seasons and signing a one-year free-agent contract with the Washington Capitals.

Chara, 43, will make $795,000 against the salary cap with Washington. He said the Bruins decided to go in a different direction, and the unrestricted free agent was not in their plans.

Coyotes Sign Derick Brassard To One-Year Deal

General Manager Bill Armstrong announced today that the Coyotes have signed forward Derick Brassard to a one-year contract. As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“We are very pleased to welcome Derick to our Pack,” said Armstrong. “Derick is an experienced, skilled forward who can play center or wing and contribute offensively. He is also very effective in the face-off circle. We look forward to having him in our lineup this season.”

The 33-year-old Brassard registered 10-22-32 and 16 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 games with the Islanders in 2019-20.

The LA Kings signed forward Andreas Athanasiou to a one-year contract worth $1.2 million, according to Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake.

Athanasiou split last season between the Detroit Red Wings and Edmonton Oilers. The 26-year-old forward started the season with the Red Wings, posting 24 points in 46 games. He was traded at the deadline to the Oilers where he posted two points in nine games before the season was cut short. He went scoreless in four games with Edmonton during the postseason.
