Mike Danton Signs With IFK Ore

Mike Danton is resuming his professional hockey career a long way from the NHL. The 30-year-old forward is joining IFK Ore, which plays in the third tier of Sweden's pro system. General manager Jens Nielsen confirmed the signing to The Canadian Press on Friday but declined to comment further. Danton spent the past two seasons with the Saint Mary's Huskies in Canadian university hockey after serving five years in a U.S. prison for a failed murder-for-hire plot.

Toronto Signs David Broll

Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Friday that the team has signed 2011 draft choice David Broll to a three-year entry level contract. Broll, a 6-1, 225-pound forward, was the Maple Leafs' sixth choice, selected 152nd overall at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The 18-year-old split the 2010-11 season between Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. In 41 games with Erie he collected 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) with 51 penalty minutes. He finished the season playing 24 games for Sault Ste. Marie registering five goals and seven assists for 12 points along with 34 minutes in penalties.

Nashville Signs Tyler Sloan

Nashville Predators president David Poile announced Friday that the club has signed defenseman Tyler Sloan to a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level. Sloan, 30, spent the 2010-11 season with the Washington Capitals, recording six points (1g-5a) in 33 games. In 99 career NHL contests with the Capitals since 2008, the Calgary, Alta., native has posted 17 points (4g-13a) and 50 penalty minutes while playing both forward and defense. The 6-4, 214-pound Sloan has also seen action in four Stanley Cup Playoff games, posting one assist. Since turning professional for the 2002-03 campaign, he also has 45 points (9g-36a) and 380 penalty minutes in 306 American Hockey League games, winning the 2009 Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears.

Rangers Sign First-Round Pick Miller

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced Thursday that the club has agreed to terms with forward J.T. Miller. Miller, 18, was selected by the Rangers with the 15th overall choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft on June 24. The East Palestine, Ohio native led Team USA in scoring with 13 points in six tournament contests en route to capturing the gold medal at the 2011 IIHF U-18 World Junior Championship in Germany. He tied for third among all tournament skaters in points, fourth in assists (nine), sixth in goals (four), and seventh with a plus-eight rating. Miller was selected by tournament coaches as Team USA's top player during the elite tournament after leading Team USA in points and assists, and finishing second on the team in goals and plus/minus rating.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Vinny Prospal to a one-year contract, club executive vice president and general manager Scott Howson announced Saturday. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed. Prospal, 36, has registered 227 goals and 453 assists for 680 points with 513 penalty minutes in 978 career games with Philadelphia, Ottawa, Florida, Tampa Bay, Anaheim and the New York Rangers during his 13 NHL seasons. He has also appeared in the Stanley Cup Playoffs nine times, tallying 10-25-35 and 26 penalty minutes in 65 games. In 2010-11, he collected 9-14-23 and eight penalty minutes with a +4 plus/minus rating in 29 games with New York and added one goal in five playoff games. "Vinny Prospal is a proven top six forward in the National Hockey League and we look forward to him playing that role for our hockey club," said Howson. "We are very pleased to be able to add a player of his caliber to our team at this late date in the free agency process."
