Ducks Sign Sami Vatanen To Entry Deal

The Ducks announced today that the club has signed defenseman Sami Vatanen to a three-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed. Vatanen, 19, appeared in 52 contests for JYP Jyvaskyla of the Finnish Elite League in 2010-11, scoring 11-20=31 points with a +30 rating and 30 penalty minutes. Named the Finnish Elite League’s Defenseman of the Year in 2010-11. Selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Vatanen represented Team Finland at the last two IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY (2011) and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (2010). A native of Jyvaskyla, Finland, Vatanen spent two seasons with his hometown Jyvaskyla junior team prior to making his Finnish Elite League debut in 2009-10. In 55 games with the junior squad.

Kings Sign Nicolas Deslauriers

The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a three-year entry level contract with defenseman Nicolas Deslauriers, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced Tuesday. Deslauriers, 20, was selected by the Kings in the third round (84th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He recently completed his fourth season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Gatineau Olympiques, and he led all QMJHL defensemen in 2011 playoff scoring with 20 points in 24 postseason games. Deslauriers helped Gatineau advance to the QMJHL's championship series (the President's Cup Final) before the Olympiques lost to the Saint John Sea Dogs in six games.

The Oilers re-signed forward Ryan Jones to a two-year deal, keeping him away from free agency, according to an ESPN.com report. The 26-year-old forward reached the deal with the Oilers on Sunday. Jones, who had 18 goals and seven assists for the Oilers last season, could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Leafs Sign Kenny Ryan To 3-Year Entry Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the club has signed 2009 draft pick Kenny Ryan to a three-year entry level contract. Ryan, 19, was originally the Maple Leafs’ second choice, selected 50th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The right-winger played the past two seasons for the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires. In 2010-11, he collected 58 points on 21 goals and 37 assists with 42 penalty minutes in 60 games played. Prior to joining the Spitfires, Ryan spent two seasons playing in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

The Sabres have signed rookie forward Marcus Foligno to a three-year entry level contract, according to an Associated Press report. Selected in the fourth round of the 2009 draft, Foligno completed his fourth season with Sudbury of the OHL. He is the son of former Sabres player Mike Foligno and younger brother of Senators forward Nick Foligno.

Predators Sign Victor Bartley

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has signed free-agent defenseman Victor Bartley to a two-year, two-way contract worth $525,000 on the NHL level and $67,500 on the AHL level in both 2011-12 and 2012-13. Bartley, 23, spent the 2010-11 campaign with Rogle of Sweden’s second division (Allsvenskan) ranking second among league defensemen in points and assists, and tied for third in goals. The native of Maple Ridge, B.C., native played five Western Hockey League seasons with Kamloops and Regina from 2004-09, amassing 168 points and 466 penalty minutes in 336 games. Bartley split his first professional season between the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2009-10.

Kings Sign Linden Vey, Jean-Francois Berube To Entry Level Deals

The Kings have signed forward Linden Vey and goaltender Jean-Francois Berube to three-year entry level contracts, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today. Vey, 19, was selected by the Kings in fourth round (96th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has played the past four full seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL, and this past season he recorded 116 points and 36 penalty minutes in 69 regular season games. His 116 points led the WHL and was tops in the entire CHL, which consists of the WHL, OHL and QMJHL. Berube, 19, was selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (95th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He has played the past three seasons with the Montreal Juniors of the QMJHL, where this past season in 50 regular season games he went 32-7-8 with three shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage. Berube was born in Repentigny, Quebec. He also played in three games with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL during the 2009-10 season as he posted a 2-1-0 record.

Coyotes Sign Petteri Nokelainen To One-Year Deal

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today the Coyotes have signed free-agent center Petteri Nokelainen to a one-year contract. Nokelainen appeared in 46 games for Jokerit Helsinki of the SM-liiga (top professional ice hockey league in Finland) recording 11-16-27 and 116 penalty minutes. Nokelainen also played nine games for Team Finland at the 2011 IIHF World Championship, helping his country win a gold medal. This will be Nokelainen’s second stint with Phoenix after being acquired on March 3, 2010 from the Anaheim Ducks. In 189 career NHL games with the New York Islanders, Bruins, Ducks and Coyotes, Nokelainen has recorded 17-17-34 and 66 PIM. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the first-round (16th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft.
