The Edmonton Oilers signed center Chris Kelly to a professional tryout contract Sunday.

The 36-year-old Kelly had five goals and seven assists in 82 regular-seasons games for Ottawa last season,

Being an unrestricted free agent without arbitration rights, defenseman Damon Severson was hoping to get contract from the New Jersey Devils that would carry him over for a couple of years.

The Devils instead gave Severson, 23, a vote of confidence, signing him to a six-year, $25 million contract that will keep him with the team through the 2022-23 season.

The Rangers have hired former players Brian Leetch and Brad Richards as advisers.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed free-agent center Alexander Wennberg to a six-year, $29.4 million contract.

The Blue Jackets announced the deal Friday, locking up their top-line center through the 2022-23 season, with a cap hit of $4.9 million a year. The 22-year-old Swede was a key part of a young team that set franchise records for wins and points and advanced to the playoffs last season.
