Maple Leafs Sign Rasmus Sandin To Two-Year, $2.8M Deal

Rasmus Sandin has signed a two-year, $2.8 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the club announced on Thursday.

The 22-year-old from Sweden was the 29th overall selection in the 2018 draft. Sandin had 16 points in 51 games with Toronto last season. He's played in 88 career regular-season games, with six goals and 22 assists, and has one goal in five playoff games.

Sabres Reward GM Kevyn Adams With Extension

Though his rebuilding job is far from complete, Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams signed a contract extension on Wednesday, an indication that ownership believes he has the franchise pointed in the right direction.

Terms of the extension were not revealed. Adams, who's in his third season as GM, signed the deal as players reported for the start of training camp.

Zdeno Chara Retires After 24 Seasons, Signs One-Day Deal With Bruins

Zdeno Chara, the hulking defenseman who captained the Boston Bruins to their sixth Stanley Cup, announced Tuesday he is retiring from the NHL.

The 45-year-old finishes his career with 209 goals and 680 points in 1,680 games over 24 seasons with the New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Bruins and Washington Capitals before returning to the Isles for the 2021-22 season. Chara scored twice and had 14 points while averaging nearly 19 minutes of ice time over 44 games in what ultimately became his final NHL campaign.

Oilers Sign Jake Virtanen To Pro Tryout Agreement

The Edmonton Oilers signed Jake Virtanen to a professional tryout agreement on Monday, two months after the former Vancouver forward was found not guilty of sexual assault.

Virtanen was charged in January in connection with an incident in a downtown Vancouver hotel room in September 2017. He was with the Canucks when the allegations surfaced in May 2021 and the team placed him on leave and bought out his contract the following month. He was found not guilty in July.

Predators Hire First Female Scout Ronda Engelhardt

The Nashville Predators announced Ronda Engelhardt will become a North American amateur scout based out of Minnesota, the first female scout hired by the team.

The hiring of Engelhardt on Wednesday comes a day after the Calgary Flames added Rebecca Johnston for a player development role and the Seattle Kraken promoted Alexandra Mandrycky to assistant general manager after three years as director of hockey strategy and research.

GM Jim Nill Signs Deal With Stars Through 2023-24 Season

Jim Nill signed a one-year contract to remain general manager of the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. It runs through the 2023-24 season.

The 64-year-old enters his 10th season after he was hired April 29, 2013. The Stars have qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times under Nill, including reaching the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, a six-game loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
