Emily Engel-Natzke wanted to make the National Hockey League as a video coach.

When the Washington Capitals named Engel-Natzke video coordinator on Thursday, she not only accomplished that goal, but she also became the first woman to hold a full-time position on an NHL coaching staff.

Red Wings Hire Derek Lalonde As Head Coach

The Detroit Red Wings have hired Derek Lalonde to coach their rebuilding team, hoping the two-time Stanley Cup-winning assistant can make all the right moves to make the franchise relevant again.

Lalonde spent the past four years on Jon Cooper's staff with the Tampa Bay Lightning, a stretch that included championships in 2020 and '21 and, most recently, a third consecutive trip to the Stanley Cup Final.

Sabres Sign Craig Anderson To One-Year Deal

Bruins Reward GM Don Sweeney With Extension

All those wins and playoff appearances weren't enough for Bruce Cassidy to keep his job as Boston Bruins coach. But they earned general manager Don Sweeney a contract extension.

The Bruins said on Monday they have signed Sweeney to a multiyear extension, six weeks after they lost in the first round of the playoffs and three weeks after he fired Cassidy.

Maple Leafs Sign Timothy Liljegren To Two-Year Extension

The Maple Leafs on Monday signed defenseman Timothy Liljegren to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $1.4 million.

The 23-year-old Swede had 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 61 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs in 2021-22. He also appeared in two playoff games.

The Chicago Blackhawks have promoted Meghan Hunter to assistant general manger among several front office moves, making her the third woman to currently hold that position and fourth in NHL history.

GM Brandon Davidson announced Hunter's promotion and other front office moves Tuesday. Karilyn Pilch was also promoted to director of player personnel, while Mark Eaton will remain assistant GM of development and Brian Campbell will keep his role as hockey operations adviser.

Panthers Hire Paul Maurice As New Head Coach

Paul Maurice has been hired as the new head coach of the Florida Panthers, replacing interim coach Andrew Brunette, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Maurice, 55, stepped down from the Winnipeg Jets after 29 games this season, ending a nine-year stint with the franchise. He has coached 1,685 regular-season NHL games, the fourth most in NHL history, and is seventh in career wins with 775. He previously coached the Jets, Carolina Hurricanes, Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed coach Jay Woodcroft to a three-year extension through the 2024-25 season, it was announced Tuesday.
