Robyn Regehr Signs Extension With Kings

The Kings have re-signed defenseman Robyn Regehr to a two-year contract extension, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today.
 
Regehr appeared in 41 regular season games this season with the Kings and Sabres, posting four points (all assists) and 23 penalty minutes.  In 943 career regular season games with the Flames, Sabres and Kings, Regehr has 172 points (30-142=172) and 881 penalty minutes.
 
The native of Recife, Brazil has also appeared in 54 playoff games, recording 16 points (3-13=16) and 32 penalty minutes.  In 13 playoff games with the Kings this postseason Regehr has one assist and four penalty minutes.
 
Regehr was acquired by the Kings from Buffalo in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft and the 2015 NHL Draft on April 1.  He was originally selected by Colorado in the first-round (19th overall) of the 1998 NHL Draft.

Jackets Sign Anton Forsberg To Entry Deal

The Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Anton Forsberg to a three-year, entry-level deal, according to an ESPN.com report on Tuesday.

Columbus' sixth pick, 188th overall, in the 2011 draft, Forsberg appeared in 33 games with Sodertalje of Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan in 2012-13.

Coyotes Sign GM Maloney To Extension

The Coyotes announced today that Executive Vice President and GM Don Maloney has signed a long-term contract extension.

"We are very pleased that Don has agreed to sign a long-term contract extension with the Coyotes," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "Since joining the team in 2007, Don has done an outstanding job managing his team and building a competitive roster that has produced on the ice, even given less than ideal circumstances off the ice.  The NHL remains committed to securing the Coyotes' future in Glendale under new ownership, and we believe Don's long-term agreement evidences that he is equally committed."

In six seasons under Maloney’s leadership, the Coyotes have posted an impressive record of 230-172-56 including qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs three times.

Predators Sign WHL Scoring Leader Brendan Leipsic

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has signed 2012 third-round draft pick Brendan Leipsic to a three-year entry-level contract.

Leipsic, 19, was co-recipient of the 2013 Bob Clarke Trophy as WHL scoring champion after posting 120 points (49g-71a) in 68 games as Portland won the Scotty Munro Trophy as regular-season champions. 

Nashville's fourth choice, 89th overall (third round), in the 2012 Entry Draft has amassed 211 points (93g-118a), 235 penalty minutes, and a +84 rating in 201 games with Portland since 2010.

Avs Name Patrick Roy New Coach

The Avalanche announced today that the organization has reached an agreement in principle with Patrick Roy to become the franchise’s Head Coach/VP of Hockey Operations.  Due to the Memorial Day weekend, the Avalanche will hold a press conference next week in Denver to formally introduce Roy.

Roy, 47, becomes the sixth head coach in Avalanche history and the 14th in franchise history.  In addition to his head coaching duties, Roy will also work with Executive VP of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic in all player personnel decisions.

“This is a very exciting day for our fans and a significant moment in our organization’s history,” said Avalanche President Josh Kroenke.  “Patrick’s passion for the game of hockey both as a player and as a coach defines who he is as a person.  He is a winner and is coming back to Denver where he created numerous special moments on and off the ice while helping lead us to two Stanley Cup championships.”

Predators Name Phil Housley Assistant Coach

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that Phil Housley has been named assistant coach of the team. Housley coached the USA to a gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships and ranks fourth all-time among NHL defensemen in points.

“Phil brings a unique skill set to our coaching staff,” Poile said. “He was one of the most talented offensive defensemen to play in the NHL, and he has worked extensively with young players during his coaching career. He will continue to focus his efforts on our young defensemen and assisting on the power play.”

Housley, 49, has spent the last nine seasons in the coaching ranks, most recently serving as an assistant for Team USA at the 2013 World Championships that took home the bronze medal, the nation’s first medal at the tournament in nine years.

William Karlsson Sings Entry Deal With Ducks

The Ducks announced today that the club has signed center William Karlsson to a three-year entry-level contract. 
 
Karlsson, 20, was named the 2012-13 Swedish Elite League Rookie of the Year after scoring 4-24=28 points with a +17 rating and 12 penalty minutes in 50 games with HV71. 
 
Selected in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Karlsson completed his second season with Vasteras of Sweden’s Allsvenskan league (second division) in 2011-12.

Sabres Re-Sign John Scott

The Sabres have re-signed fourth-line forward John Scott to a one-year deal, according to an ESPN.com repot on Monday.

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, the rugged Scott had no points and 69 penalty minutes in 34 games last season.
