Jackets' Ryan Murray To Undergo Shoulder Surgery

Blue Jackets Executive Vice President and GM Scott Howson announced today that Ryan Murray will undergo surgery on his injured shoulder in the next two to three weeks and will be sidelined approximately six months.  Murray, the captain of the WHL’s Everett Silvertips, was injured on November 16 in a game against the Victoria Royals.
 
Murray, 19, was the Blue Jackets’ first pick, second overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.  In 23 games with Everett this season, he had collected two goals and 15 assists for 17 points with 14 penalty minutes.

Jackets Prospect Ryan Murray Injures Shoulder

Jackets prospect Ryan Murray suffered a shoulder injury Friday playing for the Everett Silvertips of the WHL, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

"It's not good news," Jackets GM Scott Howson told the Dispatch. "Right now his arm is in a sling, held tight to his body, and he's in a lot of pain. He'll have an MRI [exam] early this week, and then we'll know more."

Cowen Out Six To Eight Months After Hip Surgery

Senators defenseman Jared Cowen is out for six to eight months after surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip, according to an ESPN.com report.

The club says Cowen is expected to make a full recovery from Saturday's operation in New York.

Pascal Leclaire Retires From NHL

Goaltender Pascal Leclaire has announced his retirement from the NHL, citing a recurring hip problem.

Leclaire, 30, was taken by the Blue Jackets with the eighth pick of the 2001 Draft, and spent parts of six seasons with the team. He spent his final two seasons for the Senators after being traded to Ottawa in March 2009, but played just 48 games and sat out last season due to the hip problems.

He had three surgeries on his hip during last season, but has been unable to recover enough to allow him to play again.

Geoffrion Fractures Skull In AHL Game

Canadiens forward Blake Geoffrion remains in the hospital after taking a hit Friday night while playing for the team's AHL affiliate.

The club issued a statement Saturday saying the 24-year-old underwent surgery for treatment of a depressed skull fracture and is expected to make a full recovery, according to an ESPN.com report.
