The Colorado Avalanche have activated star center Nathan MacKinnon off injured reserve ahead of Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

MacKinnon has not played since Dec. 5 because of an upper-body injury that forced him out of a loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. He was placed on IR the following day.

The Avalanche said at the time that MacKinnon would miss about four weeks.

St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a lower-body injury and will be reevaluated in six weeks.

Krug, 31, has five goals and 12 assists in 31 games this season, his third with St. Louis. He will be a long-term IR exception to the salary cap.

Flyers forward Cam Atkinson will have neck surgery Wednesday and miss the entire season, another setback for one of the worst teams in the NHL.

The 33-year-old has not played at all this season.

Vegas Golden Knights leading scorer Jack Eichel was placed on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury, the club confirmed Monday.

The designation means Eichel must miss at least seven days dating back to when he couldn't physically play.

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon left the 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday with an upper-body injury, the team announced.

MacKinnon took a wrist shot from the slot in the first period, and as the puck sailed wide of the net, he winced but remained on the ice and finished his shift. When he went to the bench, the game broadcast showed a shot of him favoring his left side.

Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi will miss six weeks after undergoing hand surgery, the team announced Friday.

Bertuzzi, 27, underwent surgery on his left hand after it was hit by a shot during Wednesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
