Brandon Tanev is out for the rest of the season for the Seattle Kraken with an ACL injury.

The forward left in the third period of a 5-3 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 18, Seattle's last game before having four postponed because of COVID-19 concerns. The Kraken said additional information on his surgery and recovery will be released when available.

Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom is nearing his season debut after being sidelined by a left hip injury.

Backstrom skated again Wednesday morning ahead of Washington's game at Chicago. Coach Peter Laviolette said the veteran center was going to meet with a trainer after the session, but everything looks good.

Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishop will remain on long-term injured reserve with a degenerative knee injury that marks "the end of his career," general manager Jim Nill told The Dallas Morning News on Saturday.

Bishop, 35, had surgery for a torn meniscus after the pandemic-altered 2019-20 season and missed all of the shortened 2020-21 season, when Dallas missed the playoffs.
