Leafs Sign Sam Carrick To Entry Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the club has signed forward Sam Carrick to a three-year entry level contract. Carrick, 20, played in all 68 games this season for the OHL Brampton Battalion and led the team in goals (37), assists (30), points (67), power-play goals (11) and penalty minutes (104). The native of Stouffville, Ontario was originally the Maple Leafs fifth choice, selected 144th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today the Coyotes have signed goaltender Mike Lee to a three-year entry-level contract. Lee posted an 8-6-2 record with a 2.23 goals against average and a .930 save percentage with St. Cloud State (WCHA) in 16 games this season. Lee was selected by the Coyotes in the third round (91st overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today the Coyotes have signed forward Chris Brown to a three-year entry-level contract. Brown recorded 12-17-29 and 66 penalty minutes in 38 games with Michigan (CCHA) this season. He set career highs in assists (17), points (29) and PIM (66) during the 2011-12 season. Brown led all Michigan rookies in 2009-10, with 13-15-18, and led the team with seven power play goals in 45 games. He was named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team.

Jackets Sign Sean Collins To Entry Deal

The Blue Jackets have signed forward Sean Collins to a standard two-year entry level contract, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and GM Scott Howson announced today. Collins, 23, just completed his senior season at Cornell University, where he registered 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points, 12 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 34 games, setting career highs in goals, assists and points. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Collins was the Blue Jackets’ ninth pick, 187th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft.

Maple Leafs Sign Spencer Abbott To Entry Deal

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the club has signed free agent forward Spencer Abbott to a one-year entry level contract. Abbott has also signed an amateur tryout contract with the Marlies of the AHL and will join the Marlies for the remainder of the regular season and Calder Cup playoffs. Abbott, a 23-year-old native of Hamilton, Ontario played 39 games for the U. of Maine Black Bears this season and led the entire NCAA in scoring with 62 points (21 goals, 41 assists). The forward is a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award given annually to the top NCAA hockey player. In four seasons at Maine, he registered 54 goals, 92 assists and 146 points with 66 minutes in penalties in 151 games played.

Lightning Sign J.T. Brown To Two-Year Deal

The Lightning have signed forward J.T. Brown to a two-year contract that runs through the 2012-13 season, Vice President and GM Steve Yzerman announced today. “We are pleased to announce JT’s signing with the Lightning this evening,” said Yzerman. “He has all the top characteristics we look for in a player, including high skill and compete levels. We’re glad he chose to play for the Lightning and we look forward to getting him in the lineup as quickly as possible.” Brown, 21, played in 39 games with the U. of Minnesota-Duluth this season, recording 24 goals and 47 points to go along with 59 penalty minutes. The forward ranked first on Minnesota-Duluth in goals and third in points. Brown ranked tied for sixth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) in points. The sophomore was also named to the All-WCHA First Team this season.

The Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Shawn Hunwick to an amateur tryout contract, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and GM Scott Howson announced today. Hunwick will serve as the backup to Allen York for tonight's game against the Red Wings. Steve Mason suffered an upper body injury during the morning skate and is listed as day-to-day. Hunwick, 22, just completed his senior season at the U. of Michigan, where he posted a 24-12-3 record with a 2.00 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and five shutouts.

The Blue Jackets have signed center Boone Jenner to a three-year entry level contract, club Executive Vice President and GM Scott Howson announced today. Jenner was selected by Columbus in the second round, 37th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Jenner, 18, is currently playing in his third season with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. He tallied 22 goals and 27 assists for 49 points with 59 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating in 43 games this season. Oshawa's team captain, he has added 3-2-5 and six penalty minutes in three OHL playoff games.
