Sabers, Kaleta Agree To Multiyear Deal

The Sabres have agreed to re-sign forward Patrick Kaleta to a multiyear deal, according to an ESPN.com report. The two sides agreed to a three-year, $3.825M deal, a person familiar with the contract told The AP shortly after the Sabres announced the agreement on Tuesday.

Mark Fraser Signs Deal With Leafs

Brian Burke, President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Monday that the club has signed defenceman Mark Fraser to a one-year contract. Fraser, 25, split the 2011-12 AHL season between the Marlies and Syracuse Crunch, former affiliate of the Ducks. The defenceman helped lead the Marlies to the 2012 Calder Cup Final, posting three assists and 31 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games. Fraser was acquired by the Maple Leafs from the Ducks on February 27, 2012 in exchange for Dale Mitchell.

The Flames have signed goaltender Leland Irving to a one-year, two-way deal. The contract is worth $687,500 at the NHL level or $207,500 at the AHL level. Irving played seven NHL games last season and registered his first career win on Dec. 23 in a victory at Vancouver.

Kings Add Davis Payne To Staff

The Kings have hired Davis Payne as an assistant coach and have signed him to a multi-year contract, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi and Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced today. "Davis was clearly the guy at the top of our list," said Sutter. "We wanted somebody with NHL head coaching experience, and preferably a younger guy who communicates well with players and fits in well with our staff. We're excited about having him." Payne, 41, most recently was the head coach of the Blues.

The 24-year-old Benn, the older brother of Stars forward Jamie Benn, had two assists in three games for Dallas last season. The defenseman had nine goals and 23 assists last two season with the Texas Stars in the AHL.

Steve Staios Joins Leafs Management Team

Steve Staios, a veteran defenceman of 18 seasons in the NHL, announced his retirement as an active player on Wednesday. The Hamilton, Ontario native played in 1,001 career regular season games and 33 more in the NHL postseason from 1995 to 2012. He has accepted a position with the Maple Leafs as Player Development Advisor. "I am very excited about joining the Toronto Maple Leafs management team," said Staios. "I'm looking forward to doing everything I can to help the team have success. The time is right for me and my family to step away from the game that I love to play and move on to a new chapter in my life. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Brian Burke and Dave Nonis and learn from their experience and knowledge."

The Greenwich, Conn., native will make $1.5M in 2012-13, $2M in 2013-14 and $2.5M in 2014-15. Wilson, 22, set career highs in assists (20) and points (35) while scoring 16 goals in 2011-12. He also tied for second on the Predators in game-winning goals (5), and fourth on the club in power-play goals (5) this past season.
