Canadiens Re-Sign Travis Moen
The Canadiens re-signed left winger Travis Moen to a four-year deal, the team announced Friday.
Moen, who would have become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday, will earn an average of $1.85M per season, according to a source.
Niskanen Staying With Penguins
The Penguins have re-signed veteran defenseman Matt Niskanen to a two-year contract, the team announced Saturday.
The deal is worth $4.6M -- Niskanen will earn $2.1M next season and $2.5M in 2013-14 -- a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.
Lightning Re-Sign D Keith Aulie
The Lightning have re-signed defenseman Keith Aulie to a one-year, two-way contract, vice president and GM Steve Yzerman announced today.
Aulie played in 19 games with the Lightning last season, collecting one assist and 13 penalty minutes. He recorded his first point with the Bolts, an assist, on March 29 at New Jersey. Aulie appeared in three regular season games with Norfolk of the AHL, notching two assists and six penalty minutes. He won the Calder Cup with the Admirals, skating in 18 playoff games, recording a goal and six points.
The 23 year-old defenseman was acquired from the Maple Leafs on February 27 in exchange for Carter Ashton.
Avs Sign Steve Downie To Two-Year Deal
The Avalanche announced today that the team has signed forward Steve Downie to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.
Downie, 25, collected 13 points in 20 games with Colorado after being acquired from Tampa Bay on Feb. 21, 2012. Combined between the Lightning and Avalanche, Downie recorded 41 points and 137 penalty minutes in 75 games this past season. His 27 assists were a career high.
'Since his arrival, Steve has provided a unique combination of grit and skill to our lineup," said Avalanche GM/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. "We're looking forward to Steve’s contributions to our team for the next two years."
Coyotes Re-Sign Andy Miele
Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-signed center Andy Miele to a one-year, two-way contract.
Miele recorded 16-38-54 with Portland (AHL) in 2011-12. He led the Pirates in assists (38) and points (54) in his first professional season. Miele made his NHL debut with Phoenix on Oct. 23, 2011 at Anaheim. He appeared in seven games with the Coyotes during the 2011-12 regular season.
Predators Sign Hal Gill To Two-Year, $4M Deal
The Predators have re-signed defenseman Hal Gill to a two-year contract worth $4M, according to an NHL source.
Gill would have been an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Jackets Sign Nikita Nikitin
The Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a two-year, $4.3M contract, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and GM Scott Howson announced today. Nikitin will earn $1.8M in 2012-13 and $2.5M in 2013-14.
Nikitin, 26, registered seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points with 18 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Blue Jackets and Blues in 2011-12, including 7-25-32 and 14 penalty minutes in 54 games after being acquired by the Blue Jackets from the Blues in exchange for Kris Russell on November 11, 2011.
"We were very pleased with the way Nikita played after joining us last season as he became a significant contributor on our blue line," said Howson. "He made tremendous strides this year and will continue to be an important part of what we believe is a very good group of defensemen."
Lightning Re-Sign Brendan Mikkelson
The Lightning have re-signed defenseman Brendan Mikkelson to a one-year, one-way contract, vice president and GM Steve Yzerman announced today.
Mikkelson, 25, played in 41 games with the Lightning last season, collecting one goal and three points to go along with 13 penalty minutes. He scored his first career NHL goal on March 17 against the Blues. Mikkelson recorded his first points (two assists) with the Lightning on February 16 versus the Sharks.
He was acquired by Tampa Bay from the Flames on January 6 in exchange for Blair Jones.
Oilers Name Ralph Krueger Head Coach
Ralph Krueger was named head coach of the Oilers Wednesday, according to an ESPN.com report.
Krueger, 52, a former national team coach with Switzerland and Germany, was an associate coach to Tom Renney this past season.
Krueger was head coach of the Swiss national team from 1997 to 2010. He joined the Oilers coaching staff in July 2010.
Sharks Re-Sign Braun, Wingels, Desjardins
