New York Islanders defenseman Adam Pelech has been placed on long-term injured reserve Saturday, one day after he sustained an upper-body injury in a game against the Ottawa Senators.

Pelech was injured on his second shift of the first period and did not return to the contest.

He will be required to miss at least 10 games and 24 calendar days after being placed on long-term injured reserve.

Also on Saturday, the Islanders placed rugged forward Matt Martin on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. The move is retroactive to Nov. 15.

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy was activated off injured reserve Friday and will make his season debut against the host Carolina Hurricanes later in the night, coach Jon Cooper announced.

Vasilevskiy underwent surgery to repair a lumbar disc herniation in his back in September. Jonas Johansson (8-4-5, 3.41 goals-against average, .894 save percentage) made the bulk of the starts in his absence, with Matt Tomkins adding three appearances before being placed on waivers.

Former Hart Trophy winner and five-time NHL All-Star Taylor Hall is expected to miss the rest of the season to undergo surgery on his right knee, the Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday.

Hall, who had two goals and four points in 10 games, last played Sunday in the Blackhawks' 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. He logged more than 17 minutes.

Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper says there is "a really good chance" that star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy will return from back surgery during a three-game road trip that starts Friday night.

Soucy was injured Sunday when he blocked a shot in the Canucks' 5-2 victory against the Montreal Canadiens. He logged more than eight minutes of ice time before leaving the game in the second period.

The Buffalo Sabres will be without star forward Tage Thompson for the foreseeable future because of an injury he sustained blocking a shot Tuesday night.

Thompson was injured in the second period of the Sabres' 5-2 loss to the Boston Bruins when he blocked a shot by Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

The Columbus Blue Jackets activated forward Patrik Laine off injured reserve Saturday morning, making him available for the team's afternoon game against the host Detroit Red Wings.

Laine, 25, had been sidelined since absorbing a high hit from Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson as the final horn sounded in the Blue Jackets' 3-1 win Oct. 20 in Columbus.
