Aaron Ekblad will be out 12 weeks for the Florida Panthers after the defenseman had successful surgery Monday on a fracture in his left leg.

"Overwhelmed by the love and support of my family and teammates, my peers and the Florida Panthers fan base and organization," Ekblad said in a post on Twitter. "I appreciate each and every one of you.

"Thank you Dallas Stars for everything last night. I'm so grateful for your help. To everyone who has reached out, I see you. Thank you!"

Tuukka Rask will be out at least two games for the Boston Bruins because of an upper-body injury.

The goalie will not play when the Bruins host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; SN1, NESN, MSG-B, NHL.TV) nor Sunday against the New Jersey Devils.

Rask played one period for the Boston Bruins against the New York Islanders on Thursday before leaving the game.

Evgeni Malkin left the Pittsburgh Penguins game against the Boston Bruins with a lower-body injury at PPG Paints Arena on Tuesday.

The center took a hit in the corner from Bruins defenseman Jarred Tinordi at 6:42 of the first period. Malkin remained on the bench before going to the locker room but returned to the bench at 12:29.

He participated in a power play that began at 13:13 of the first before leaving a second time. He did not play the remainder of Pittsburgh's 2-1 loss.

Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said Malkin was being evaluated but they had no other information.

Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot could miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing surgery Monday for a fractured hand.

The operation was at Montreal General Hospital and he is expected to miss six to eight weeks, the team said before Monday's game in Winnipeg.

The Buffalo Sabres will be without captain Jack Eichel for what coach Ralph Krueger called "the foreseeable future" in delivering yet another blow to a team in the midst of a nine-game skid.

The injury is not considered season-ending, though Krueger on Saturday was unable to provide a fixed timetable on how much time Eichel will miss.

The Nashville Predators placed Matt Duchene on injured reserve Saturday with a lower-body injury that is expected to sideline the veteran center for three to five weeks.
