Brent Seabrook Signs Eight-Year, $55M Extension With Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks and Brent Seabrook agreed to an eight-year contract extension on Saturday.

The deal is worth $55 million total, with a $6.875 million average salary that takes effect a year from now, sources told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.

Seabrook was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. His last contract was for five years and $29 million.

Leafs Sign Brad Boyes To One-Year Deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that the club has agreed to terms with free agent forward Brad Boyes on a one-year contract.

Boyes was originally invited to training camp with Toronto on a professional try-out.

Boyes, 33, appeared in 78 regular season games last season with the Florida Panthers, collecting 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists) and 20 penalty minutes. The Mississauga, Ontario native has registered 481 points (203 goals, 278 assists) in 762 career NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Florida.

The deal is worth an average of $2.3 million per season, a source told ESPN.com. It breaks down as $1.5 million in the first year, $2.1 million in the second season and $3.3 million in the final season.

Blackhawks Re-Sign Michal Rozsival To One-Year Deal

Defenseman Michal Rozsival and the Blackhawks agreed to a one-year deal Saturday, according to an ESPN.com report.

Rozsival will carry a $600,000 cap hit and can earn up to $200,000 in bonuses for games played.

The 37-year-old Rozsival played the past three seasons for the Blackhawks and came into their training camp on a professional tryout agreement. He had one goal and 12 assists over 65 games last season.

Devils Sign Jiri Tlusty To One-Year Deal

The Devils signed free-agent center Jiri Tlusty to a one-year, $800,000 contract Wednesday, according to an ESPN.com report

The 27-year-old Tlusty, from the Czech Republic, had 14 goals and 17 assists in 72 regular-season games last season with Carolina and Winnipeg. He has 87 goals and 86 assists in 416 career games in eight seasons with Toronto, Carolina and Winnipeg.

The Blue Jackets have added four individuals to the club’s hockey operations staff, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.  

Former Blue Jackets forward Fredrik Modin has been named a special assistant to hockey operations and longtime NHL player Jarkko Ruutu has been hired as the club’s first European development coach, while Blake Geoffrion and Rick Knickle have joined the club’s scouting staff.
