Avs Sign Mason Geertsen To Entry Deal

The Avalanche announced today that the team has signed defenseman Mason Geertsen to a three-year, entry-level contract. 

Geertsen, 19, just completed his 2014-15 season with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, where he led all team defensemen in scoring with 38 points  in 69 games. .
 
“Mason is coming off a strong junior season,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President/GM Joe Sakic. “We are pleased to have him under contract and look forward to seeing him at training camp.”
 
Selected by Colorado in the fourth round (93rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Geertsen has recorded 78 points (19g/59a) and 437 PIM in 245 career WHL games. The Drayton Valley, Alberta native served as an alternate captain for Vancouver in each of the past two seasons.

Canucks Sign Chris Tanev To Extension

The Canucks have signed defenseman Chris Tanev to a five-year contract extension.

The deal is worth $22.25 million, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.

"Chris has developed into an excellent NHL defenseman and is an extremely important part of our team," Canucks GM Jim Benning said Tuesday in a statement announcing the deal.

Maple Leafs Sign Casey Bailey To Two-Year Entry Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the club has signed free agent forward Casey Bailey to a two-year entry level contract.

Bailey, 23, collected 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists) in 36 regular season games this season with Penn State University (Big-10). Bailey led the entire Big-10 Conference with 22 goals and ranked fourth overall with 40 points. In 96 career games at Penn State University, Bailey registered 80 points (45 goals, 35 assists) and 91 penalty minutes. The Anchorage, Alaska native led the Big-10, averaging 5.70 shots on goal per game.

Leafs Sign Nikita Soshnikov To Entry Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Friday that the club has signed free agent forward Nikita Soshnikov to a three-year entry level contract.

Soshnikov, 21, skated in 57 games with Moscow Oblast Atlant of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) this season, collecting 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) and 22 penalty minutes. Soshnikov led his team with 14 even strength goals this season. The forward also ranked second on his team with 139 shots. Soshnikov had the third-highest point total (32) among all KHL skaters under the age of 23. In 90 career KHL games, Soshnikov has collected 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) and 49 penalty minutes.

Boychuck Signs Seven-Year Extension With Isles

The Islanders have signed defenseman Johnny Boychuck to seven-year contract extension, the team announced Thursday.

The deal is worth $42 million, a source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun

Boychuk, 31, earned $3.6 million this season and would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer. 

Boychuk has seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points, in 59 games for the Islanders this season.

Rangers Sign Adam Tambellini To Entry Deal

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Adam Tambellini on an entry-level contract.

Tambellini, 20, has skated in 65 games with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL this season, registering 45 goals and 34 assists for 79 points, along with a plus-40 rating and 26 penalty minutes. He is one of two players in the three Canadian Major Junior Leagues (OHL, QMJHL, and WHL) who have tallied at least 45 goals and have posted a plus/minus rating of plus-40 or better this season. Tambellini ranks fourth in the WHL in goals, ranks sixth in plus/minus rating, is tied for seventh in points, and is tied for third in the league in shorthanded goals (four).

The Port Moody, British Columbia native was originally selected by the Rangers in the third round, 65th overall, of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Source: Rangers, Mats Zuccarello Agree To Extension

The Rangers have agreed to terms on a four-year, $18 million contract extension with forward Mats Zuccarello, a source confirmed to ESPN.com.

The deal was hammered out following a weekend during which contract talks between the team and Zuccarello's camp broke off, which led to the Rangers briefly shopping the winger, as first reported by ESPN.

Jackets Sign Dillon Heatherington To Entry Deal

The Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Dillon Heatherington, the club’s fourth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry level contract, Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. 
 
Heatherington, 19, was the 50th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.  The Calgary, Alberta native has recorded a goal and 11 assists for 12 points and 40 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL this season.  
 
He also saw action in seven games and helped Canada win gold at this year’s IIHF World Junior Championships and recorded a goal in seven appearances to help the Canadians win the 2013 IIHF World Under-18 Championships.
