Police: Fan Makes Threats Against Blue Jackets

Police say a passionate hockey fan made physical threats against the Blue Jackets in a series of phone calls to the team?s arena during a game, according to an Associated Press report. Columbus Police Sgt. Rick Weiner says 52-year-old Peter Stenzel was arrested Thursday and charged with inducing panic for threatening physical harm against the team during their win over the Flames.

Could Gillett Be Ready To Sell Canadiens?

The Canadiens could be for sale as part of a plan by owner George Gillett to sort out his varied holdings, according to an Associated Press report on Monday. ?The Gillett family has retained the services of financial advisers to assess various strategic alternatives to optimize the value of its corporate assets,? team president Pierre Boivin said in a statement. ?In Canada, the family has retained the services of BMO Capital Markets and the process is under way.? Montreal La Presse reported that BMO will study all financial avenues, including selling the club, financial restructuring or bringing in new investors. Gillett owns 80.1 percent of the team and the Bell Centre.

Ex-NHL Player Walt Poddubny Dies At 49

Former NHL player Walt Poddubny died Saturday, the Thunder Bay Chronicle-Journal reported. He was 49. The cause of death wasn?t known. The newspaper said a person close to the family said Poddubny collapsed at his sister?s house, where he was living. Poddubny played 11 NHL seasons for the Oilers, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Quebec and New Jersey.

Devils' Brodeur Dealt Alimony Setback

Just days after breaking the league record for wins by a goaltender, the Devils? Martin Brodeur has been dealt an alimony setback by a New Jersey appeals court, according to an Associated Press report. The court ruled that Brodeur must pay his ex-wife $500,000 a year until 2020. A lower court originally awarded Brodeur?s ex-wife, Melanie DuBois, limited alimony.

Rangers GM Glen Sather posted $1M bail for former Oilers owner Peter Pocklington on Friday, two days after Pocklington pleaded not guilty to bankruptcy fraud charges, according to an Associated Press report. U.S. attorney?s office spokesman Thom Mrozek said Pocklington will be subject to home detention and electronic monitoring. His trial is scheduled for May.

Bail has been set at $1 million for former Oilers owner Peter Pocklington, who pleaded not guilty earlier this week to bankruptcy fraud charges, according to an Associated Press report. U.S. attorney?s office spokesman Thom Mrozek says bail was set at a hearing Friday in federal court in Riverside, Ca. Mrozek says Pocklington was expected to post bail and be released Friday night. Mrozek says he?ll be subject to home detention and electronic monitoring. His trial is scheduled for May.

Ex-Oilers Owner Arrested In Bankruptcy Case

Former Oilers owner Peter Pocklington has been arrested for allegedly concealing assets during bankruptcy proceedings. In an indictment revealed Wednesday, Pocklington is charged with making false statements in bankruptcy and making false oaths and accounts in bankruptcy. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in federal prison.
