Donald Fehr was appointed Thursday to assist the NHL Players? Association in its search for an executive director, according to an Associated Press report.
The union said Fehr will work with two committees. In addition to the search committee, a second panel will review the union?s constitution.
NHL Reinstates Samueli As Ducks' Owner
Henry Samueli has been reinstated as owner of the Ducks after serving a suspension handed down by the NHL more than a year ago, when he pleaded guilty to a felony count of lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Columbus may have trouble holding on to the NHL?s Blue Jackets because the club has been losing $12M a year in central Ohio, according to a report released Thursday by a business group.
The report from the Columbus Chamber offers a variety of options for strengthening the hockey team?s financial position, such as new taxes or fees to support it.
Other suggestions include allowing the team to renegotiate its lease for Nationwide Arena or trying to attract a second major tenant, such as a basketball team, according to an Associated Press report.

Sale Of Coyotes To NHL Finally Closes
Final papers have been signed closing the sale of the bankrupt Phoenix Coyotes to the NHL, according to an Associated Press report.
Notification of the closure was filed Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Attorneys signed final papers on Monday and $13.3 million was transferred into an account that will hold the money until dispersal is determined.
In all, the NHL paid about $140 million for the team.
Judge Approves Sale Of Coyotes To NHL
A federal bankruptcy judge has given his approval to the sale of the Coyotes to the NHL, as reported by the Associated Press.
Judge Redfield T. Baum agreed to sign the sale order on Monday after attorneys made minor modifications to the deal.
None of the changes significantly altered the NHL?s agreement to pay about $140M to buy the team from owner Jerry Moyes.
Gretzky Won't Object To Coyotes Sale
Wayne Gretzky chose not to file a formal objection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, paving the way for the NHL to likely complete its purchase of the Coyotes.
Gretzky had until Friday to file an objection.
The case will be back in court Monday where Judge Redfield T. Baum will review the $140-million bid by the NHL, which is expected to be approved.
