Ovechkin Questionable For Next Game

Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin sat out practice Wednesday with an upper-body injury and is questionable for the team's game Friday in Philadelphia, according to an NHL.com report.

Ovechkin was injured in the first period of the Capitals' 3-2 loss in Vancouver on Monday.

Rinne To Have Hip Surgery

Predators goaltender Pekka Rhine will miss at least four weeks after he has arthroscopic surgery on his hip, according to an ESPN.com report on Thursday.

The team announced the move but did not say when Rinne will undergo surgery. Rinne had surgery on his left hip on May 9 and recovered in time to begin the season.

Rinne was in goal Tuesday night for a 2-0 loss at Minnesota, and is currently 4-4-1.

Nashville has recalled goalie Magnus Hellberg from Milwaukee under emergency conditions to replace Rinne.

Cam Talbot Gets First NHL Start

Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will miss Thursday's game in against the Flyers because of an unspecified injury. He will not back up during the game, either.

That means that the recently-recalled Cam Talbot will get the first NHL start of his career. The 26-year-old was brought up from the AHL last week after the team waived veteran Martin Biron.

Boyle Returns Home After Night In Hospital Following Hit

Dan Boyle has returned home following a night in the hospital after a hit by Maxime Lapierre of the St. Louis Blues.

"It was an emotional day," Todd McLellan said.

"I'm OK," he wrote in a text to David Pollock of the San Jose Mercury News. "That was scary. Hopefully the symptoms will be very minor, if any, going forward."

Lapierre reached out to Boyle to apologize.

Jackets' Calvert Out Six Weeks After Abdominal Surgery

Blue Jackets forward Matt Calvert underwent surgery this morning to repair an abdominal injury, club GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers at the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia and is expected to sideline Calvert for approximately six weeks.  

Calvert, 23, has recorded seven hits, two takeaways and four shots on goal in three appearances thus far on the 2013-14 campaign.
