NHL Wants Expansion Team In Seattle By 2014

The NHL is trying to have an expansion team in Seattle by the start of the 14-15 season, according to a report from Mitch Levy of KJR.

Seattle was identified as an alternative option if the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes fell through.

"If approved, the new expansion Seattle NHL club would cost approximately $275M," wrote Levy. "It would begin playing here in the 2014-2015 season."

A Michigan state board on Wednesday unanimously gave the go-ahead for a new Red Wings hockey arena in downtown Detroit to be paid for in part with $284M in tax dollars even as the broke city works through bankruptcy proceedings, according to an ESPN.com report.

Prospective Owners Of Coyotes Sign Lease

The prospective owners of the Coyotes have signed their lease agreement for Jobing.com Arena, according to an ESPN.com report.

Daryl Jones, partner with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment, tweeted on Monday that the lease agreement with the City of Glendale has been executed.

The Glendale City Council approved a 15-year, $225M arena lease deal with RSE during a special session last week.

The Coyotes took a big step toward stability Tuesday night when the Glendale City Council ratified an arena lease agreement with a prospective owner of the franchise, according to an ESPN.com report.

"Everybody who's followed this saga has said decide something or just shoot us," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said. "Fortunately, we got the result we needed to stay in a great place and a great hockey town."
