Report: NHL Approves Sale Of Coyotes To Renaissance Group

The NHL has approved the sale of the Coyotes to a group of Canadian-led investors, but the deal is contingent on reaching an agreement with the city of Glendale, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday.

The NHL agreed to sell the team to Renaissance Sports & Entertainment, a group headed by George Gosbee, Anthony LeBlanc and Daryl Jones, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because there had been no official announcement.

They said commissioner Gary Bettman, deputy commissioner Bill Daly and the prospective buyers will meet with Glendale officials on Tuesday.

NHL Rejects Pastor's Bid To Buy Coyotes

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told ESPN.com on Monday that Darin Pastor's bid to buy the Coyotes was dismissed because it didn't meet the league's requirements.

"We have rejected the offer. It didn't include the elements we had previously discussed were necessary to warrant serious consideration," Daly said in an email Monday night.

Boogaard's Family Sues NHL For Wrongful Death

A Chicago law firm has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the NHL on behalf of the family of Derek Boogaard, who died in 2011 at the age of 28.

The family says the league is responsible for the brain damage that Boogaard, a defenseman who played for the Wild and Rangers, suffered during six seasons as an enforcer, as well as his addiction to prescription painkillers.

NHL Close To Deal For Coyotes

The NHL is nearing a deal to sell the Phoenix Coyotes, according to a Fox Sports Arizona report.

Renaissance Sports and Entertainment, headed by George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc, is concentrated on turning the team around financially and keeping it in Glendale.

The report said that a purchase agreement could be in place within the next week.
