Flames Pull Out Of Deal With City For New Arena

The Calgary Flames have pulled out of a deal with the city for a new arena because of increased costs.

John Bean, president and chief executive officer of Calgary Sports and Entertainment, said Wednesday that there is no viable path forward to complete the 19,000-seat Event Centre. The Flames have played in the Saddledome for 38 years.

The Chicago Blackhawks have settled a lawsuit by a former player who said he was sexually assaulted by an assistant coach during the team's 2010 Stanley Cup title run.

After representatives for the Blackhawks and former first-round pick Kyle Beach met Wednesday with a mediator for the first time, they announced that the session had resulted in a confidential settlement.

Coyotes Pay $1.3M In Back Taxes, Won't Be Locked Out Of Arena

The Arizona Coyotes will not be locked out of their arena later this month.

Following a report on Wednesday night that the team was at risk of losing access to Gila River Arena because of more than $1.3 million in unpaid city and state taxes, Arizona has since come current on all bills and tax liabilities.

Coyotes Deny Report Team Is Up For Sale, Moving To Houston

The Arizona Coyotes say they're staying put.

The team vehemently denied a Forbes report on Thursday citing an unnamed banking source that the Coyotes are up for sale "with the idea of [a] buyer eventually moving the team to a new arena in Houston."

Arizona quickly issued a statement in response.

"This is false. Totally false," the statement read. "We're not selling. We're not moving. The Coyotes are 100 percent committed to playing in Arizona."
