Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty has been suspended three games by the NHL for a hit to the head of Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang.
The league made the announcement Monday night, hours after Pacioretty had a hearing over the phone with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan.
Pacioretty struck Letang in the head with his shoulder with 3:14 left in the third period of Montreal's 4-3 overtime loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Letang was bloodied and sustained a broken nose, but he returned to the game and scored the winning goal.

Andre Deveaux Suspended Three Games
The NHL has suspended Rangers forward Andre Deveaux for three games.
Deveaux was assessed a match penalty for attempt to injure Wednesday night in a game against Florida for an elbow to the head of Panthers winger Tomas Fleischmann.
He also received a five-minute major for an intentional hit to the head.
Chris Stewart Gets Three Game Suspension
Blues forward Chris Stewart has been suspended three games for shoving Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall into the boards from behind.
The NHL announced the suspension Wednesday.
Kaleta Suspended Four Games For Head-Butt
Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta was suspended four games for a head-butt, the NHL announced Thursday.
Kaleta was battling for the puck along the boards in the Sabres zone, when he lunged head-first into a crowd of players with the crown of his helmet striking Philadelphia's Jakub Voracek in the chest and face.
