Sabres Trade Leopold To Blues

The underachieving Sabres began retooling for the future by trading defenseman Jordan Leopold to the contending Blues on Saturday, according to an ESPN.com report.

In exchange for Leopold, Buffalo received a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round selection in the June draft.

Penguins star Sidney Crosby is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery to repair a broken jaw, according to an ESPN.com report. 

The Penguins announced Sunday on their official website that Crosby had the surgery after being hit in the mouth with a puck during Saturday's game against the Islanders.

Penguins captain Sidney Crsoby lost several teeth and needed oral surgery after he was hit in the mouth with a puck during a 2-0 win against the Islanders on Saturday.

Coach Dan Bylsma wasn't sure if the injury affected Crosby's jaw and didn't know if he would miss any more time, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Penguins welcomed Jarome Iginla to the lineup, but lost Sidney Crosby early in the first period after he was hit in the mouth with a puck.

Still, the Penguins managed to overcome the injury to Crosby on Saturday for their 15th straight victory as Matt Cooke and James Neal scored third-period goals during a 2-0 win against the Islanders.

"It's very tough to see that happen to anybody on the ice, but this is your teammate and Sid's such a great player," Iginla said. "It's a very, very unfortunate play."

Wings Close Deal With Danny DeKeyser

The Red Wings were considered the frontrunner for the best college free agent and on Friday, Detroit closed the deal.

Western Michigan U. defenseman Danny DeKeyser signed a two-year deal with the Red Wings after a week spent listening to teams from around the league. The Flyers, Lightning, Sharks, Ducks, Flames and Oilers were among the teams interested in signing DeKeyser.

Rangers Agree To Terms With Conor Allen

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Conor Allen.

Allen, 23, registered five goals and 14 assists for 19 points, along with 53 penalty minutes in 33 games with UMass-Amherst of Hockey East this season. He established career-highs in assists, points and penalty minutes. Allen led all team defensemen in assists and points, and tied for third among blueliners in goals. 

The 6-1, 210-pounder has skated in 99 career collegiate contests over three seasons with UMass-Amherst, registering 14 goals and 25 assists for 39 points.

Coyotes Send Kessy To Oilers For Rieder

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired forward Tobias Rieder from the Oilers in exchange for forward Kale Kessy.

Rieder recorded 27-29-56 and 12 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) this season. In 2011-12, the Landshut, Germany native collected 42-42-84 and 25 PIM in 60 games with the Rangers. 

Rieder was originally drafted by the Oilers in the fourth round (114 overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
