Callahan, Hagelin Have Successful Shoulder Surgeries

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that both Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in each of their left shoulders.

The procedures were performed by Dr. Andrew Feldman earlier today at the NYU Langone Medical Center's Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland wants to sign Datsyuk to another deal as early as July 5.

Jarret Stoll Remains 'Day To Day'

Kings center Jarret Stoll practiced Thursday without a no-contact jersey for the first time in more than two weeks, but his status for Game 1 of the Western Conference finals against the Blackhawks on Saturday remains uncertain.

Stoll was hit in the head by Sharks left winger Raffi Torres in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals on May 14 and hasn't played since.

Robyn Regehr Signs Extension With Kings

The Kings have re-signed defenseman Robyn Regehr to a two-year contract extension, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced today.
 
Regehr appeared in 41 regular season games this season with the Kings and Sabres, posting four points (all assists) and 23 penalty minutes.  In 943 career regular season games with the Flames, Sabres and Kings, Regehr has 172 points (30-142=172) and 881 penalty minutes.
 
The native of Recife, Brazil has also appeared in 54 playoff games, recording 16 points (3-13=16) and 32 penalty minutes.  In 13 playoff games with the Kings this postseason Regehr has one assist and four penalty minutes.
 
Regehr was acquired by the Kings from Buffalo in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft and the 2015 NHL Draft on April 1.  He was originally selected by Colorado in the first-round (19th overall) of the 1998 NHL Draft.

Ref To Work Finals Despite Controversy

Stephen Walkom is one of eight referees that will officiate the conference finals set to begin this weekend between the Blackhawks and Kings, as well as the Penguins and Bruins, according to an ESPN.com report.

Walkom called controversial coincidental roughing penalties late in the third period of Chicago's Game 7 overtime victory on Wednesday night.

United Center's Ice Holds Up After Stones Concert

The Blackhawks and Red Wings deemed the United Center's ice satisfactory Wednesday prior to Game 7 of their Western Conference semifinal series, despite a Rolling Stones concert the night before and high heat and humidity, according to an ESPN.com report.

"It's fine," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said of the ice after Wednesday's morning skate.

Rangers Fire Coach John Tortorella

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that head coach John Tortorella has been relieved of his coaching duties.

Under Tortorella, the Rangers posted their second most wins all-time in a single season with 51, and tied for second in franchise history with 109 points in 2011-12.  He became the 30th coach in NHL history to coach 800 games on March 27, 2012, at Minnesota (3-2 win), and won his 100th game as Rangers Head Coach with a 5-3 win on November 5, 2011, vs. Montreal.  On March 26, 2013, Tortorella became the 30th head coach in league history to register his 400th NHL coaching victory, with a 5-2 win at Philadelphia. He also passed Tom Renney for fourth on the Rangers' all-time wins list with a victory on April 10, 2013 vs. Toronto.

Tortorella was named the 34th head coach in franchise history on February 23, 2009.
