Coyotes Sign Gilbert Brule To One-Year Deal

Coyotes GM Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed forward Gilbert Brule to a one-year, two-way contract.

Brule has recorded 6-2-8 with four penalty minutes in eight games with the Portland Pirates (AHL) this season. Brule registered 5-9-14 with a plus-seven rating in 33 games with the Coyotes in 2011-12.

In parts of seven NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets, Oilers and Coyotes, the 26-year-old native of Edmonton, AB has played in 296 regular season games.

 Brule was originally drafted by the Blue Jackets in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Ducks Sign Nick Bonino To New Deal

The Ducks announced today that the club has signed center Nick Bonino to a three-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season.
 
Bonino, has appeared in all 27 games for the Ducks this season, posting 7-9=16 points with eight penalty minutes. He currently ranks fourth on the team in points, tied for third in goals, second in face-off percentage (51.0%) and third among forwards in time-on-ice (15:57). In 139 career NHL games with Anaheim.
 
Originally selected by the Sharks in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Bonino was acquired by Anaheim with Timo Pielmeier in exchange for Kent Huskins and Travis Moen on Mar. 4, 2009.

Jackets Claim Corey Tropp Off Waivers From Sabres

The Blue Jackets have claimed forward Corey Tropp off waivers from the Sabres, club GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.  

Tropp, 24, has registered three goals and six assists for nine points and 20 penalty minutes in 43 career NHL games, including 0-1-1 in nine appearances with the Sabres this season.  He made his NHL debut during the 2011-12 season, tallying 3-5-8 and 20 penalty minutes in 34 games with Buffalo. He missed the majority of the 2012-13 campaign due to a knee injury.

Maple Leafs Sign Top-Pick Frederik Gauthier

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday the hockey club has signed forward Frederik Gauthier to a three-year entry level contract.

Gauthier, 18, was the Maple Leafs’ first-round pick, 21st overall, in the 2013 Entry Draft. The centreman has played 23 games with the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL this season, posting 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) with 15 penalty minutes. Gauthier also represented Team QMJHL this month against Team Russia in the 2013 Subway Super Series on November 18 and 20.

The native of Laval, Quebec registered 60 points (22 goals, 38 assists) with 26 penalty minutes and a +22 rating in 62 games last season with Rimouski. 

In 85 career games with Rimouski over two seasons (2012-13 to present), Gauthier has registered 27 goals, 54 assists and 81 points with 41 minutes in penalties.
