The Maple Leafs announced Friday that Rielly has signed an eight-year, $60 million extension to remain with Toronto, the same team that took him fifth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The deal removes any possibility of Rielly hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The New York Islanders have signed tough guy forward Ross Johnston to a four-year contract extension.

The team did not release contract terms in making the announcement on Tuesday.

The Ottawa Senators have signed forward Brady Tkachuk to a seven-year, $57.5 million contract, the team announced Thursday.

The deal was reached with the restricted free agent hours before the Senators' season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tkachuk did not play for Ottawa during the preseason.

The Predators have signed defenseman Mattias Ekholm to a four-year, $25 million extension keeping him under contract through the 2025-26 season.

A day before they start their quest for a third straight Stanley Cup, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced that they have signed coach Jon Cooper to a three-year extension that runs through the 2024-25 season.

The Arizona Coyotes signed forward Alex Galchenyuk to a one-year deal on Wednesday.

Terms were not disclosed.

The 27-year-old Galchenyuk returns to Arizona after scoring five goals with eight assists with Ottawa and Toronto last season.
