Red Wings To Retire Red Kelly's No. 4

Jan 31, 2019 8:33 AM

The Detroit Red Wings will retire Red Kelly's No. 4 prior to Friday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"Amazing, isn't it?" the 91-year-old said. "I fought against having it, but it seemed to work out well in the end. Very well."

The Red Wings are the second team to ensure no one ever wears Kelly's No. 4. The Maple Leafs retired that number on Oct. 13, 2016.

"It's nice that they are doing this on a night both those teams are playing against each other," Kelly said. "All for a number I was reluctant to get."

Tuukka Rask Nearing Return From Concussion

Jan 31, 2019 8:29 AM

Tuukka Rask could return to the Boston Bruins on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The goalie practiced Wednesday for the first time since sustaining a concussion in a collision with New York Rangers forward Filip Chytil on Jan. 19.

"Yeah, I feel good today," Rask said. "So we'll see what tomorrow brings and go from there."

Rask's next win will be the 253rd of his NHL career and give him sole possession of first place on the Bruins all-time list, breaking a tie with Tiny Thompson.

Henrik Lundqvist Hopes Rangers Keep Mats Zuccarello 'For Many Reasons'

Jan 27, 2019 7:39 PM

Henrik Lundqvist knows the New York Rangers will engage in roster turnover as they continue to rebuild, but doesn't want to see Mats Zuccarello among those dealt.

The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 25.

"You don't really want to go there mentally to think about [Zuccarello] being gone," Lundqvist said. "I think, first of all, he's a close friend now. He's been such a big part of this team for so many years. I appreciate him as a player, as a person and as a teammate."

Zuccarello has played his entire NHL career with the Rangers.

"But at the same time, we all understand how this world works," Lundqvist added. "It's a business, and [there's] a lot of planning going into trading with teams. We're in a unique position right now, so we'll see what happens, but obviously I hope he'll stick around for many reasons."
