Rangers Trade Cracknell To Canadiens For Holland

Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has acquired forward Peter Holland from the Canadiens in exchange for Adam Cracknell.

Holland, 26, has skated in 20 games with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, registering eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points, along with 19 penalty minutes. He was tied for second on Laval in assists, ranked third on the team in goals, and was tied for third on the team in points this season. Holland posted five multi-point games in 20 contests with Laval in 2017-18, including a four-point game (three goals, one assist) on Nov. 4 vs. Syracuse.

Holland has skated in 243 career NHL games over parts of six seasons (2011-12 – 2016-17) with Anaheim, Toronto, and Arizona, registering 35 goals and 46 assists for 81 points, along with 105 penalty minutes.

Kings Place Brooks Laich On Unconditional Waivers

The Los Angeles Kings have placed forward Brooks Laich on unconditional waivers with the intent of mutually terminating his contract.

General manager Rob Blake confirmed the move Sunday. The Kings had assigned Laich to the American Hockey League's Ontario Reign on Saturday after the 34-year-old cleared regular waivers.

Jackets Sign Cam Atkinson To Seven-Year, $41.125M Extension

The Blue Jackets have signed right wing Cam Atkinson to a seven-year, $41.125 million contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2024-25 NHL season, club GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Atkinson, 28, has registered 125 goals and 108 assists for 233 points with 106 penalty minutes in 397 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets. He ranks second in club history in goals and game-winning goals (25), fourth in points, seventh in games played and 10th in assists and is one of three players (Rick Nash, R.J. Umberger) in club history to score 20 or more goals in four consecutive seasons.

“Cam Atkinson has played an integral role in the growth of our team over the past four seasons and we couldn’t be happier that he will remain a Columbus Blue Jacket for many years to come,” said Kekalainen. “He has improved every year he’s been here and has become a player our team can use in all situations. We believe his best years are still in front of him.”

Injured Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews will miss his fourth straight game when Toronto hosts the Devils on Thursday night.

Leafs coach Mike Babcock confirmed at practice that Matthews will sit out the game as he continues to deal with an upper-body injury.

Kings Trade Michael Cammalleri To Oilers For Jussi Jokinen

The Kings have acquired forward Jussi Jokinen from the Oilers in exchange for forward Michael Cammalleri, Kings Vice President and GM Rob Blake announced today.

Jokinen has played in 14 games with the Oilers this year, recording one point and two penalty minutes. The native of Kalajoki, Finland has played for the Oilers, Panthers, Penguins, Hurricanes, Lightning and Stars during his 13-year NHL career. 

Cammalleri appeared in 15 games this season with the Kings, posting seven points (3-4=7), a plus-1 rating and four penalty minutes.

Lightning Acquire Louis Domingue From Coyotes

The Lightning have acquired goaltender Louis Domingue (doh-MING, LOO-ee) from the Coyotes in exchange for goaltender Michael Leighton and forward Tye McGinn, vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman announced.

Domingue, 25, has appeared in seven games with the Coyotes this season, posting a 4.33 goals-against average and .856 save percentage. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound goaltender has played in 84 career NHL games, all with Arizona over the past four seasons, compiling a record of 27-41-7 to go along with a 3.00 goals-against average and .906 save percentage with two shutouts.

Domingue was originally selected by the Coyotes in the fifth round, 138th overall, at the 2010 NHL Draft.

The Ottawa Senators have acquired center Matt Duchene from the Colorado Avalanche as part of a three-way deal that also involved the Nashville Predators.

Center Kyle Turris is going from Ottawa to Nashville in the deal and agreed to a six-year, $36 million contract extension with the Predators.

Jackets Sign Maxime Fortier To Three-Year Entry Level Deal

The Blue Jackets have signed right wing Maxime Fortier to a three-year entry level contract, club GM Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. Fortier is currently playing with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Fortier, 19, has registered 85 goals and 137 assists for 222 points with 80 penalty minutes in 221 career QMJHL games with the Mooseheads, including 13-14-27, 10 penalty minutes and a +12 plus/minus rating in 19 games this season.

The 5-10, 184-pound native of Montreal, Quebec made his QMJHL debut in 2013-14 and the following year spent his first full season in the league.

Backes has been dealing with diverticulitis, a disease characterized by inflammation in the intestinal tract.
