East Wins Skills Competition; Wings' Larkin Fastest Skater

Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin won not only the title of fastest skater at this event but set the record for the fastest lap around a full rink. He topped Mike Gartner's  time of 13.386 seconds in 1996 -- months before Larkin was born.

Hometown favorite, Predators captain Shea Weber, won the hardest shot at 108.1 mph.

The Eastern Conference won the skills competition 29-12, giving John Tavares and Jaromir Jagr the choice as captains of which period to play their semifinal game Sunday in the All-Star Game. They chose the first period for the 3-on-3 competition.

LA Kings To Host 2017 NHL All-Star Game

The Los Angeles Kings and STAPLES Center will host the 2017 NHL® All-Star Game, it was announced earlier today by the Kings and the National Hockey League in Nashville, site of the 2016 NHL All-Star Game.  The game, which takes place next January 29, is the highlight of All-Star Weekend (January 28-29), which also features the popular NHL All-Star Skills Competition(™) and NHL Fan Fair.

NHL Suspends Wideman For Cross-Checking Linesman

Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman, who cross-checked a linesman during his team's home loss to the Predators on Wednesday, has been suspended pending a hearing with the NHL next week.

Wideman will attend the Tuesday hearing, a source told ESPN's Scott Burnside. Wideman's suspension was announced by the league Thursday.

Alex Ovechkin To Miss All-Star Weekend

Alex Ovechkin will miss the upcoming All-Star festivities in Nashville, Tennessee, because of an lower-body injury he's been dealing with since mid-November.  Capitals head coach Barry Trotz said the team took the decision out of Ovechkin's hands because the focus must be on the playoffs and the chase for the franchise's first Stanley Cup.

Panthers Sign Aleksander Barkov To New Deal

The Panthers have signed starting center Aleksander Barkov to a six-year extension.

The extension is worth an average of $5.9 million per season, a source told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.

Barkov is third on the Atlantic Division-leading Panthers in scoring, with 12 goals and 18 assists in 38 games this season.

Connor McDavid Cleared For Full Contact

Oilers star rookie center Connor McDavid, the top pick of the 2015 NHL draft, said Sunday that he has been cleared for full contact and is eyeing a Feb. 2 return against the Blue Jackets.

McDavid, 19, has been sidelined since he broke his left clavicle in a Nov. 3 win over the Flyers.

Rangers Sign Daniel Paille

The Rangers have signed veteran forward Daniel Paille, according to an ESPN.com report.

General manager Jeff Gorton announced the signing of the 10-year veteran Thursday. Paille has played in 31 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, collecting a goal and three assists.

Ducks Trade Sekac To Hawks For Garbutt

The Ducks announced today that the club has acquired left wing Ryan Garbutt from the Blackhawks in exchange for left wing Jiri Sekac.
 
Garbutt, 30, has scored 76 points with 242 penalty minutes in 241 career NHL games with Dallas and Chicago. In 2013-14, Garbutt collected a career-high 17 goals and 32 points in 75 games with the Stars. 
 
Sekac, 23, collected 3 points with an even plus/minus rating in 22 games with the Ducks this season. Acquired from Montreal in exchange for Devante Smith-Pelly on Feb. 24, 2015, Sekac has posted 10-16=26 points with 26 PIM in 91 career NHL games with the Ducks and Canadiens.

Kings, Anze Kopitar Agree To New Eight-Year Deal

The Kings and forward Anze Kopitar have agreed to terms on an 8-year contract extension, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

The extension begins at the start of the 2016-17 season and culminates at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
 
Kopitar, 28, has spent his entire NHL career with the Kings after the club selected him in the first-round (11th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  In 725 regular season games he has 645 points, while in 70 postseason games he has 60 points en route to two Stanley Cups.

Ducks Acquire Perron, Clendening From Pens For Hagelin

The Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired left wing David Perron and defenseman Adam Clendening from the Penguins in exchange for left wing Carl Hagelin.
 
Perron, 27, has scored 20-plus goals three times in his NHL career, including a career-high 28 in 2013-14 with Edmonton. He has appeared in 542 NHL games with St. Louis, Edmonton and Pittsburgh, scoring 133-179=312 points with 412 penalty minutes ..

Clendening, 23, has scored 1-4=5 points with 20 PIM in 30 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Vancouver and Chicago. He appeared in nine games with Pittsburgh this season, recording one assist.
 
Hagelin, 27), collected 4-8=12 points in 43 games with Anaheim this year. Hagelin was acquired by Anaheim from the Rangers in exchange for Emerson Etem and a second-round selection in the 2015 NHL Draft on June 27, 2015.
