Avs Sign Tyson Barrie To Four-Year Deal

The Avalanche announced today that the team has signed defenseman Tyson Barrie to a four-year contract through the 2019-20 season.

Barrie, 25, led all Colorado defensemen in points (49), goals (13) and assists (36) while appearing in 78 games this past season.

Selected by Colorado in the third round (64th overall) of the 2009 Entry Draft, Barrie has tallied 153 points (40g/113a) in 264 career NHL games.

Leafs Sign Martin Marincin To Two-Year Deal

The Maple Leafs announced today that the club has signed defenceman Martin Marincin to a two-year contract. The average annual value of the contract is $1.25 million.

Marincin, 24, scored one goal, collected six assists and registered 34 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Maple Leafs last season after being acquired in a trade with the Oilers on June 27, 2015 In 150 career NHL games, the Kosice, Slovakia native has recorded 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) and 66 penalty minutes.

Marincin was originally selected by Edmonton in the second round (46th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Hurricanes Sign Coach Bill Peters To Extension

The Hurricanes signed head coach Bill Peters to a contract extension through the 2018-19 season, GM Ron Francis said Wednesday.

Peters has a record of 65-72-27 in two seasons while leading the Hurricanes' rebuilding project. They finished this season sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 35-31-16 record, but earned 86 points -- their most since 2010-11, and a 15-point improvement from Peters' first year.

"We knew it wasn't going to be a quick turnaround," Peters said. "It takes time. ... I just like the direction we're headed in, and we're headed in that direction for a long period of time."

Brayden Schenn and the Flyers have agreed to a four-year deal, narrowly avoiding arbitration.

Sources tell ESPN's Pierre LeBrun that the deal has an average annual value of $5.125 million.

Schenn, 24, was a restricted free agent after posting career highs with 20 goals and 33 assists in 80 games last season.

Maple Leafs Sign Frank Corrado To One-Year Deal

The Maple Leafs announced today the club has signed defenceman Frank Corrado to a one-year contract. Corrado, 23, scored one goal, collected five assists and registered 26 penalty minutes in 39 games during his first season with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16. He has registered eight points (three goals, five assists) in 67 career regular season NHL games with the Maple Leafs and Canucks.

The Toronto native was claimed off of waivers from Vancouver on October 6, 2015. He was originally selected by the Canucks in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed No. 1 overall draft pick Auston Matthews to a three-year, entry-level contract Thursday with the maximum bonuses allowed.

Matthews had 24 goals and 22 assists in 36 games last season for the Zurich Lions in Switzerland and had nine points for the United States at the world hockey championship.

Hours before Marcus Johansson and the Capitals were set to go to arbitration for the second time, they agreed on a $13.75 million, three-year deal. The 25-year-old Swedish forward will count $4.583 million against the salary cap, almost exactly between the two sides' arbitration asking prices but on a longer contract.

"I don't think anyone wants to go to arbitration. That's kind of a last resort,'' Johansson said on a conference call from Toronto on Wednesday. "It was a little tight schedule before the meeting, but I'm really happy that we worked it out.''
