Steven Stamkos Signs New Eight-Year Deal With Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed their star captain Steven Stamkos to an eight-year deal Wednesday, keeping him off the market two days before free agency begins.

"I am excited to move forward with the Lightning today for the next eight years," Stamkos said in a statement. "It's not often that a player gets the chance to spend his career in one organization and I am hopeful that this agreement sets me on that path with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Most importantly, I look forward to working with my teammates, coaches and our management in our pursuit of winning a Stanley Cup."

Flyers Sign Radko Gudas To Four-Year Extension

The Flyers signed Czech defenseman Radko Gudas to a multiyear contract extension, the team announced Thursday.

A source told ESPN's Pierre LeBrun that it is a four-year extension worth $3.35 million annually.

Gudas had six goals and five assists in 76 games this past season.

Flames Name Glen Gulutzan Head Coach

The Calgary Flames named Glen Gulutzan as their new coach on Friday.

Gulutzan, 44, comes over from rival Vancouver, where he was an assistant coach with the Canucks.

The move announced Friday is a homecoming of sorts for Gulutzan, who was coach and general manager of Calgary's ECHL affiliate in Las Vegas from 2003 to 2009.

Cam Ward Re-Signs With Hurricanes

Cam Ward has signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, choosing to stick with the only NHL team he has ever played for rather than test free agency this summer.

The Hurricanes announced Thursday that the goaltender's contract will pay him $3.5 million in the first year of the deal and $3.1 million in the second for an annual salary-cap hit of $3.3 million.

The Blues have hired former Wild coach Mike Yeo as associate head coach and will hand him the head coaching job when Ken Hitchcock retires after next season.

"For being 42 years old, he's got a lot of experience," Blues general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. "He's won a Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh, he's taken an American League team to the finals, and you saw the good job he did in Minnesota in taking that team to the second round. What excites me is his experience, but with his age, he can really relate to today's players and it's an exciting day for our team."
