Jake Gardiner Signs New Deal With Leafs

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the club has signed defenceman Jake Gardiner to a five-year contract.

Gardiner, 24, played in 80 games for the Maple Leafs and collected 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) with 19 penalty minutes in 2013-14. He ranked second on the team with a 21:04 ‘time on ice’ average. He established single-season career-highs for games played, goals, points, penalty minutes, powerplay goals (2) and shots (136).

He was originally Anaheim’s first choice, 17th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. Toronto obtained Gardiner from the Ducks along with Joffrey Lupul and a fourth-round pick (later obtained by San Jose) in the 2013 Entry Draft for Francois Beauchemin on February 9, 2011.

Leafs Sign Daniel Winnik To One-Year Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Monday the club has signed forward Daniel Winnik to a one-year contract.

Winnik, 29, played 76 games for the Ducks in 2013-14, registering career highs in assists (24) and points (30) while adding six goals, 23 penalty minutes and a plus-six rating. He also posted an assist and two penalty minutes in nine playoff games with the Ducks last season.

The centreman has accumulated 150 career NHL points (49 goals, 101 assists) and 226 penalty minutes in 490 games with Phoenix, Colorado, San Jose and Anaheim. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Winnik was originally selected by Phoenix in the ninth round, 265th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Leafs Sign David Booth To One-Year Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday the club has signed forward David Booth to a one-year contract.

Booth, 29, played 66 games for the Canucks in 2013-14, collecting nine goals, 10 assists, 19 points and 18 penalty minutes. The winger has registered 218 career NHL points (113 goals, 105 assists) and 181 penalty minutes in 443 games with the Canucks and Panthers. In 2008-09 with the Panthers, Booth set career highs in goals (31), assists (29) and points (60) in 72 games.

Booth was selected by Florida in the second round, 53rd overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft.

Maple Leafs Name Kyle Dubas Assistant GM

The Maple Leafs announced today the hiring of Kyle Dubas, who served the past three seasons as General Manager of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, as Assistant General Manager to David Nonis.

As part of a front office restructuring, the club also announced the departures of Vice President of Hockey Operations Dave Poulin and Vice President and Assistant General Manager Claude Loiselle.

“Kyle is a young executive that has made a strong name for himself in hockey with a progressive style, work ethic and maturation beyond his years,” said Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan. “He has a fresh approach that we feel will benefit our club for years to come.”

“At the same time, I would like to thank Dave Poulin and Claude Loiselle for their tireless dedication during their time with the Maple Leafs. They are both very accomplished hockey executives who have helped put this team in a position to take the next step.”

Leafs Sign Peter Holland To Two-Year Deal

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Wednesday that the club has signed forward Peter Holland to a two-year contract.

Holland, 23, played 39 games for the Maple Leafs in 2013-14 collecting 10 points (five goals, five assists) and 16 penalty minutes.  He recorded a career best two goals and three points December 14 against Chicago. The forward also played 14 regular season games for the AHL's Marlies this past season during which he registered five goals and five assists with 10 penalty minutes. In 11 Calder Cup playoff games he led the Marlies in both goals (7) and points (15).

The Maple Leafs acquired Holland on November 16, 2013 from the Ducks along with Brad Staubitz in exchange for Jesse Blacker, Toronto’s second round pick and Anaheim’s seventh round pick (previously acquired) in the 2014 Entry Draft.

Holland has played 68 career NHL games for Toronto and Anaheim and has registered 17 points (10 goals, seven assists) and 24 penalty minutes. He was originally Anaheim’s first choice, selected 15th overall, in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Derek Roy Signs One-Year Deal With Nashville

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has signed free-agent forward Derek Roy to a one-year, $1 million contract.

 “Derek brings us added depth, playmaking ability and experience at center, helping complement our young, developing wingers,” Poile said. “He has played in a number of roles, averaging about 19 minutes of ice time throughout his career, and is effective on the power play. He provides our coaching staff with some added skill and maturity down the middle when putting together our lineup for the coming season.”

Roy, 31, has recorded 492 points in 666 career NHL regular-season games with Buffalo, Dallas, Vancouver and St. Louis since 2003-04. The Ottawa native is a four-time 60-point, 20-goal scorer including a 32-goal, 81-point campaign in 2007-08 and a 28-goal, 70-point season in 2008-09, both with the Sabres. In 2013-14, the center posted 37 points in 75 games with the Blues.

Predators Add Mike Ribeiro

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has signed free-agent forward Mike Ribeiro to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

“Mike is a talented veteran center who has produced offensively everywhere he has played,” Poile said. “We have done our due diligence and believe Mike has a lot to offer to our team, improves us at our center ice position and will fit in with our group and contribute.”

Ribeiro, 34, has amassed 656 points in 865 career NHL games since the 1999-2000 season with Montreal, Dallas, Washington and Phoenix. In 2013-14, the center registered 47 points and he is just one season removed from producing at a point-per-game clip with Washington, posting 49 points in 48 games in 2012-13.

Hawks Add Kevin Dineen To Coaching Staff

The Blackhawks hired Kevin Dineen as an assistant coach, according to an ESPN.com report on Monday.

Dineen, 50, most recently coached the Canadian women's national team to a gold medal in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. In addition to winning gold in Sochi, he led Canada's under-18 men's team to a bronze medal at the world championship in Finland in April.

He previously was the head coach of the Panthers from 2011 to 2013.

Lightning Sign Brenden Morrow, Phillippe Paradis

The Lightning have signed free agent forward Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract today, vice president and GM Steve Yzerman announced.  Tampa Bay also signed forward Philippe Paradis to a one-year, two-way contract.
 
Morrow played in 71 games with the Blues in 2013-14, recording 13 goals and 25 points.  He scored four power-play goals and three game-winning goals. 
 
A native of Carlyle, Saskatchewan, Morrow is a veteran of 921 NHL games with the Stars, Penguins and Blues. He has accumulated 262 goals, 567 points. He is a seven-time 20-goal scorer and has reached the 30-goal plateau on two occasions.      
 
Paradis played in 56 games with the Syracuse Crunch last season, recording six goals and 15 points.  He has played in 166 career AHL games with the Toronto Marlies, Rockford Ice Hogs and the Crunch, recording 13 goals and 43 points.

David Nonis, Senior Vice President and GM of the Maple Leafs, announced Friday the club has signed forward Jamie Devane to a two-year contract.

Devane, 23, played two games for the Maple Leafs in 2013-14 going scoreless. The forward made his NHL debut October 5 versus the Senators.

Devane also played 55 games for the Marlies in the AHL last season, collecting eight points (four goals, four assists) and leading the team with 146 penalty minutes.

The native of Mississauga, Ontario was selected by Toronto in the third round, 68th overall, at the 2009 Entry Draft.
