Avs Sign Semyon Varlamov To Extension

The Avalanche announced today that the team has signed goaltender Semyon Varlamov to a five-year contract extension through the 2018-19 season.

Varlamov has posted a 26-9-5 record with a 2.43 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and one shutout in 42 games (39 starts) this season.  Varlamov has already tied his career high with 26 wins, equaling his total from his first season with Colorado (2011-12).  The Samara, Russia native is tied for third among NHL goaltenders in wins, ranks second in saves (1,199), third in shots faced (1,296), sixth in games (42-tied) and eighth in save percentage (.925).

 “Undoubtedly, Semyon has been an impact player for us this season,” said Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic.  “At only 25 years old, he is entering the prime years of his career and he wants to be part of this franchise moving forward.  We are very excited to have come to terms with him and the fact that he has agreed to a five-year extension demonstrates his commitment to the Avalanche and what we’re trying to accomplish.”

Garbutt has a career-high 18 points with 10 goals and eight assists in 46 games this season.

Source: Sharks Sign Marleau, Thornton To Extensions

The Sharks are making sure two core stars aren't going anywhere this summer, signing Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton to three-year contract extensions Friday, a source told ESPN.com.

Both forwards who signed three-year deals, were slated to be unrestricted free agents July 1.

Marleau gets on average $6.66M per year while Thornton, the team captain, will make $6.75M per year,

Senators Extend GM Bryan Murray Two Years

The Senators on Monday announced Bryan Murray has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him as the team's GM through the 2015-16 season and also named him president of hockey operations.

Murray, 71, will hold both jobs for the next two seasons and then remain with the club for an additional two seasons in an advisory capacity.

"I am very pleased to have Bryan remain here in Ottawa for the next four years," Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said in a statement released by the team.

Sabres Name Tim Murray New GM

Tim Murray has the NHL background, decisiveness and family pedigree that made him the Sabres' choice to turn around a the franchise, according to an ESPN.com report.

"I wanted to find the right fit for our team, and he's got an eye for talent," Sabres president Pat LaFontaine said Thursday, when he formally introduced Murray as the Sabres' general manager. "He's earned it. He's done every job to get to this point. He's had success everywhere he's been. And he's going to have success here in Buffalo."

Ducks Sign Cogliano To Extension

The Ducks announced today that the club has signed forward Andrew Cogliano to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season. 
 
Cogliano, 26, has appeared in all 43 games for the Ducks this season, posting 13-12=25 points. He is on pace for a career best in goals and points (previously 18 and 45, respectively). The Toronto, Ontario native currently ranks fifth on the team in points, third in goals and shots (84), and tied for first among forwards in hits (50). 

Originally selected by Edmonton in the first round (25th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Cogliano was acquired by Anaheim in exchange for a second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on July 12, 2011.
