Bettman To Testify In NHL Concussion Lawsuit

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will face a legal deposition Friday morning in New York City as part of an ongoing concussion lawsuit against the NHL, a source told ESPN.com.

Bettman is expected to be deposed at 10 a.m. and face questions about the ongoing litigation filed on behalf of several NHL players alleging the league was reckless and negligent about informing players on the risks of long-term damage as a result of head injuries suffered while playing the game.

Coyotes, City Of Glendale Settle Arena Dispute

The nasty legal dispute between the Coyotes and the City of Glendale, Arizona, appears to be over, with the organization announcing Thursday afternoon that the two sides have reached a resolution to amend an existing lease agreement.

The details of the resolution are expected to be released later this afternoon, and the City Council will vote on the amendments to the 15-year, $225 million lease for Gila River Arena during a meeting Friday.

Only Las Vegas, Quebec City Apply For NHL Expansion Team

The sweepstakes for an NHL expansion team is now down to just two cities: Las Vegas and Quebec City.

Following Monday's deadline, the NHL announced that of 16 applications sent out to interested parties, only two groups submitted official applications.

Those two applications came from billionaire businessman Bill Foley, who aims to bring a team to Las Vegas, and Quebecor, the Montreal-based media company, on behalf of Quebec City.

Quebecor Bids To Bring NHL Expansion Team To Quebec City

The NHL's first deadline for interested parties to apply for an expansion team ends Monday, and one of the front-runners already announced it has submitted an official bid.

Montreal-based communications giant Quebecor confirmed via its Twitter account that it has completed the formal application process to bring the NHL back to Quebec City.

"We confirm that we submitted our candidacy for the #NHL expansion process in order to bring the #Nordiques back to #QuébecCity," the company tweeted.

Predators center Mike Ribeiro and his wife have settled a lawsuit in which their nanny accused the player of sexual assault.

An arbitrator met July 6 for eight hours before settling the lawsuit, according to an ESPN.com report on Thursday.
