Kings Say Brown Won't Be Suspended For Hit

Kings right wing and captain Dustin Brown will not face additional discipline from the NHL for his check on Antti Miettinen of Minnesota on Monday night. Brown was whistled midway through the second period for violating Rule 48.1, which forbids a lateral or blind-side hit to an opponent's head. Such penalties are subject to review by the league front office for supplementary discipline.

Stars' Robidas Suspended One Game

Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas has been automatically suspended one game for being assessed his second game misconduct within 41 games in the boarding/checking-from-behind category. Robidas will miss Thursday's contest against the Kings. He was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Tuesday night after a hit on Anaheim's Matt Beleskey in the third period.

Rypien Suspended Six Games

Canucks enforcer Rick Rypien was suspended six games Friday for grabbing a fan during Vancouver's loss to Minnesota this week. Rypien was headed to the locker room Tuesday night after being assessed a double minor for roughing and 10-minute misconduct when he reached up and grabbed James Engquist, a fan applauding at the railing. The Canucks were also fined $25,000, as required by NHL policy. "Prior to each season, all clubs and players are advised that under no circumstances are club personnel permitted to have physical contact with fans or enter or attempt to enter the stands," commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We hold NHL players to a high standard, and there simply is no excuse for conduct of this nature."

Canucks forward Rick Rypien has been suspended indefinitely for grabbing a fan while heading to the locker room in the game against Minnesota, according to an Associated Press report. Rypien was on the way to the visiting locker room on Tuesday night after being assessed a double minor for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct in the second period. Rypien pushed a Wild fan who was applauding at the railing.

Coyotes forward Shane Doan has been suspended for three games and will forfeit $73,387.11 in salary as a result of delivering an illegal check to the head of Ducks forward Dan Sexton in NHL game #67, last night, the NHL announced today. "Doan delivered a late hit from the blind side to the head of an unsuspecting opponent," said NHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "While it was fortunate that Sexton did not suffer an injury, the message should be clear that this is the type of hit that we want out of our game."
