Wade Belak, an enforcer who had played with five NHL teams before retiring in March, was found dead Wednesday in Toronto.
Toronto police spokesman Tony Vella said officers found a man dead when called at 1:40 p.m. ET Wednesday at a hotel and condo complex. Vella said "foul play is not suspected in the ongoing investigation" into Belak's death.
The 35-year-old Belak was scheduled to work as a sideline reporter on Predators television broadcasts this upcoming season.

Report: Avery Won't Be Charged
Rangers forward Sean Avery reportedly will not be charged after being arrested Aug. 5 in California on allegations he shoved an officer at his Hollywood Hills home.
The New York Daily News confirmed a TMZ report that no charges will be filed. TMZ reported that a shove did not even occur, and that the police officer tripped while entering Avery's home.
Jets' Rypien Found Dead
Rick Rypien, who played parts of six seasons as a forward with the Canucks, was found dead in his Alberta home on Monday.
Rypien, who signed with the Winnipeg Jets in July, had missed most of last season because of a leave of absence from the Canucks for personal issues. Local RCMP told The Globe and Mail on Monday night that the death was not suspicious.
The report was confirmed by TSN.
New Bid Coming For Coyotes
A new ownership bid is being formulated for the Phoenix Coyotes.
A source familiar with the Coyotes situation as well as KDUS-AM 1060 in Phoenix say there is a serious bid by a new Canadian-led ownership group to buy the hockey franchise.
The official familiar with the Coyotes situation said the unnamed Canadian group has plenty of cash to make the deal.
The same source said the group could put up $100 million, with $40 million to $50 million coming from the city of Glendale via bonds.
The NHL could give approval to the deal in the coming days, according to KDUS.
Probe On Chara Hit Complete
Police have completed their investigation into the Bruins' Zdeno Chara for his hit on the Canadiens' Max Pacioretty, forwarding the report to prosecutors.
Crown lawyers will decide whether to charge Boston's captain for the hit during a regular-season game on March 8 that sidelined Pacioretty with a concussion and a cracked vertebra.
Sean Avery Arrested At LA Party
Rangers forward Sean Avery is out on bail after he was arrested in California on allegations he shoved an officer at his Hollywood Hills home.
Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Jorge Pardo tells City News Service that a neighbor's noise complaint sent police to the home at about 1 a.m. local time Friday.
Pardo said Avery answered the front door, shoved an officer and slammed the door but cooperated when officers knocked a second time.
The officer wasn't injured.
Avery was booked on suspicion of battery on a police officer. He was released about seven hours later after posting $20,000 bail.
"We will discuss the matter with Sean and have no further comment at this time," the Rangers said in a statement.
Isles Owner Not Giving Up On Long Island
The owner of the Islanders says he's "not giving up on Long Island" after voters rejected a plan to borrow $400 million for a new hockey arena.
New York team owner Charles Wang says in a statement Wednesday that he has two goals for the Islanders: winning the Stanley Cup and staying on Long Island.
The team's lease at the Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015.
NY Official Seeks New Ideas For Arena
A day after voters soundly defeated a $400 million referendum for a new hockey arena, a New York official is asking for new ideas to develop the 77-acre parcel.
County executive Edward Mangano backed the referendum as a way to keep the New York Islanders from moving out of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The team's lease expires in 2015.
