Details Emerge Of Bailey's Anti-Semitism Suit

Nov 4, 2014 9:33 AM

The NHL is investigating what could be an explosive lawsuit filed by minor league player Jason Bailey against the Ducks. Bailey is alleging he was subject to systemic and repeated abuse while in the team's farm system because he is Jewish. The suit, filed Jan. 25 in California, refers to a period of time when Bailey, the 63rd overall pick in the 2005 draft, was playing with the ECHL Bakersfield Condors, then a farm team of the Ducks. Among the allegations in documents obtained by ESPN.com, Bakersfield coach Martin Raymond and assistant coach Mark Pederson repeatedly made racial slurs referring to Bailey's Jewish faith. Raymond, who remains the team's head coach according to the Condor's website, allegedly told Bailey that Raymond's ex-wife was Jewish "and that she was a 'bitch' for taking all of his money."

Lawsuit Claims Thrashers Have Lost $130M Since 2005

Jul 1, 2014 7:52 AM

The owners of the Atlanta Thrashers claim to have lost more than $130 million since 2005 and at least another $50 million on the plummeting value of the franchise because of a bitter dispute that ruined their plans to sell the team. The ownership group, known as Atlanta Spirit, revealed their financial woes in a lawsuit against one of the city's most prominent law firms. The lawsuit filed in Fulton County Superior Court claims the owners have been negotiating to sell the Thrashers over the last six years, only to be thwarted by a contentious split with Boston-based co-owner Steve Belkin. That legal tussle was finally settled in December when his shares were bought out.
