Chicago's Carcillo Faces Disciplinary Hearing

Oct 7, 2014 5:41 PM

Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo faces a Saturday disciplinary hearing for a hit on Carolina defenseman Joni Pitkanen early in Friday's 3-0 win by the Hurricanes. Pitkanen was chasing down a Chicago dump-in when Carcillo tied up his stick from behind and gave him a push into the end boards. No penalty was called on the play. Carcillo has been suspended numerous times in his career, including for the first two games of this season because of an altercation with officials during last year's playoffs.

A pilot helping to investigate a Russian jet crash that killed 44 people, including an entire hockey team, said Thursday that a simulation pointed to pilot error as the cause. The Yak-42 jet crashed into the banks of the Volga River Sept. 7 moments after takeoff from the city of Yaroslavl in western Russia, wiping out Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of Russia's CHL, including several former NHL players. Test pilot Vasily Sevastyanov told state-run Channel One television that the plane went into a spin because a pilot pulled it up too sharply following an abnormally slow run.
